A method we have used for the past six months has been our cel phones from Verzion with a program they supply along with a cable that attaches to a USB port. It is running on a 3 year old Sony lap top.
After 9 PM in the evenings and week ends there is no charge for air time. It works about as fast as dial up service. The only place it does not work is if you are on their extended network or roaming.
Great for email and this web site. We originally were on Alltel but there computer program would not work. They confirmed that the Motorola supplied program had problems on our model Sony. We have been happy with Verizon. We use two phones and are able to talk back and forth with no air time charges. Works for anyone on Verizon, no air time charges within the system.
