(Dick would rather not have his brake lights come on with exhaust/engine brake ... )
But you would have to use the service brakes if the driver of a vehicle in front of you suddenly hit their brakes ... or if a deer, for example, ran out in front of you, unseen to drivers behind you.
I have an open mind on this and am willing to consider differing views.

Dick, I would agree with you if the brake light was "progressive".
Progressive meaning that the harder you push the brake the brighter the light. But, the brightness is the same if you barely touch the service brake or trigger an emergency, panic stop. So, when descending a grade with aux brake it is very much like a light to moderate pressure on the service brake. I think the brake light should defintely actuate under that circumstance.
Like you, I am open to other points of view.
