Title: Hydro-Hot Antifreeze - Green not Pink

I ordered a gallon of the boiler antifreeze (the pink stuff) from Hyro-Hot. The CC books say not to use anything else. Wrong! I opened the tank and took a sample of the antifreeze and it's green not pink. According to Hydro-Hot, there was a change over from green to the pink stuff somewhere about the time mine was made (7/03). They said to just add good old green auto antifreeze as needed.

The moral of this story, check to see whats in yours before jumping through hoops, cause you won't find any of this boiler anti-freeze except at Hydro. True Value can get it, but you have to buy at least 6 gallons and they are all out. Now I get to send it back!

Tom:

I spoke with Bob Turecek at Vehicle Systems regarding the HydroHot switch on the control panel above the door. Since the bulb cannot be changed, the entire switch must be replaced. There is a two year warranty, so the switch is covered.
We discussed a couple of other HydroHot items including the antifreeze article in the Destinations Magazine. He said a number of people had mentioned it to him, but he had not seen it. I scanned it and attached it to an email I sent him on December 8. He said the type of antifreeze you use depends on the age of your HydroHot. My model number ends with 7M which means it is one of the older, double jacketed systems hence, ethylene glycol is OK. On the newer models, propylene glycol must be used since the piping is of single wall construction.

Thanks Chuck, CC has sent me a new switch for both the electric and diesel. My Hydro is like yours, ends in 7M. I'm sure the antifreeze issue will cause some confusion, the only way to tell is look inside and see what you got.
