Dick,
We will be in Marathon the week of March 8 for our first ever visit to the Keys. I know about the Dolphin Research Center and are planning at least one day in Key West. What else are "don't miss" things in the Keys?

Although we've driven back and forth to KW five times, we've confined our sightseeing to KW itself. Attractions include the Ernest Hemingway House, Truman's Winter White House, Audobon House, a butterfly conservatory, and not-to-be missed is the nightly sunset celebration at Mallory Square, which is where the cruise ships dock ... but pull out before sunset arrives. Many street people (jugglers, magicians, tightrope walkers, etc.) participate on the square and it's a three-ring circus every night.
Touring KW is best done on the Conch Train (a street tram), which travels throughout the area while the driver points out the sights. You can get on and off the train wherever you want, whenever you want, as many times as you want.
KW at night is entertaining with many street musicians and assorted characters, like the guy who walks around with a dog ... and on the dog's back is a cat ... and on the cat's back is a mouse!
There's a lot of t-shirt shops, restaurants, tattoo parlors and bars. In fact, our son's band ... *Animal House* ... will be performing at famous Sloppy Joe's in February, while we're there. That's one of Hemingway's old hangouts, by the way.
Other attractions include house tours, garden tours, orchid shows, art shows and craft shows. The town is a seafood lover's delight, although we miss out on that 'cause we've vegetarians. There's a lot of boat rides available, including a ride on a real PT boat and assorted schooners, glass bottom boats and the like.
This year I'll be involved with the local sports car club, helping to run their autocrosses.
