Cable ties
I agree, much of a CC is fastened with cable ties & cable ties do degrade.
If you wish to install cable ties designed to survive time, chemicals, sunlight & heat, I suggest http://www.panduit.com/products/Products.asp?param=266&ig_id=582 (http://www.panduit.com/products/Products.asp?param=266&ig_id=582) tefzel ties by Panduit.
In nuclear power plants we use odd colored cable ties for long term reliability in radiation fields, heat & chemicals. These tefzel ties appear to be what nuclear power plants use.
By recent experience, I know plain white ties can fail in 3 months outdoors.
