We have the Pioneer 90AV navigation in our '04 Intrigue. At the FMCA conference I queired a Pioneer tech about its operation. In the conversation, he noted that Pioneer was introducing a new software package in December (now) that would upgrade the info to include bridge heights and other data, now lacking in the current package.
Today, I stopped at a Pioneer dealer to inquire about the new software. It is available, but is now offered on two disks instead of one. One disk covers the western U.S. and the other the East. Each is about $250.
To upgrade to the new touch screen would mean a new unit in its entirety to the tune of about $1,600, plus the new software for the touch screen operation.
His advice was to wait until late January, after the electronics show, and many times the mfg will offer newer software packages and incentive deals on older software.
I'm curious whether any of you have already upgraded or have the newer touch screen package with the updated software providing the bridge clear heights, etc, and how it has worked for you.
We've never used navigation before, and really got our feet wet this past summer in about 7,000 miles of travel. I'm a true believer, but it is not perfect. Rarely, Gypsy, the name we've given the soft-voiced navigator, will steer us into a completely opposite direction than what should be, but the right turns far out-weigh the mistakes.

Thanks for your e-mail re: PIONEER NAVIGATION.
I'm hoping to purchase this GPS system for my 2002 CC; (I DID purchase one thru e-bay & got ripped off so next time it'll be thru a dealer!)
There's a new unit out now; I'll be looking into it. Any thoughts on this or on your experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Was inexperienced with e-bay, and purchased the unit with the seller before the auction finished.
Sent him the money; he gave me a tracking #. In checking with UPS, there was no such tracking #. That was the last time I heard from the seller, and the last time I'll use E-bay.
In contacting e-bay about this, they didn't want to hear about it.
Thanks,

I have Pioneer and Alpine. Alpine is far easier to use.

Has anyone heard of an RV mode for the pioneer software? I have seen it on other GPS systems. The current version in our 05 intrigue takes us on more surface streets that we would like .. when the main the highways are a lot easier to navigate with a toad, it will take us through down town (the shorter route not the easier).

Hi Russ,
There should be a selection under route definition or route waypoint inputs - shortest time, shortest distance, and the like.

I have a Garmin 2620 that I bought this summer. It does have a selection menu that let's you decide if you want to ba a truck, a bus, or a car/motorcycle. We set it on bus....
I also have a Pioneer in the new coach. It does not have a similiar selection that I can find.
On a recent trip from Dallas to Memphis, I selected the "Avoid interstate--OFF" so it should have used the interstates. Instead the Pioneer routed me on and off interstate 30. It would route you off an exit, have you make a u turn back on the interstate then back on again????... It was so bad that I just turned it off. It did that for no reason that I could find. The Garmin has never done anything like that and we have come to trust it. Besides the Garmin is portable and we take it in the tow when we are in new places.
So far, I don't like the navigation part of the Pioneer nearly as well as the Garmin 2620...Which by the way has the entire USA stored in the unit...no disk or anything needed....

Hi Russ
What model Pioneer system is in your Intrigue?

I am using a Garmin GPSIII and SA2005 on a laptop and it works great along with my VMSpc. I looked at some of the Pioneer Nav units and for what you get, I do not think it is worth the bucks invested.
