We have a 1998 Allure with the power step cover. It stopped working on the trip we just finished. You hear a whirring noise when the switch is activated but the cover doesn't move.

How do you access this mechanism? Anyone here had to repair this thing and how did you do it? The only access cover I can find is up under the floor but also appears blocked by that secondary radiator unit that is underneath that area.

Thanks.
Dan

Dan,

I have a 98 Intrique and my step failed in the same way. You can take it out by using very long extensions with a socket and rachet. Take the lower panel off reaching above the coil, forgot what its called. When you get the panel off, the rod extending the step can be seen and there will be a bolt holding the rod that is attached to the motor.
Of course you have to take the panel off inside the door under the drivers seat (going thru the outside door I'm speaking of)

All I found was the gear was out of sync with the rod, put it back in its proper position, closed it up, worked fine ever since. Warning, do not stand or place any heavy object on the step while operating it. It is a very light weight motor and gear assy.
Don't be in any hurry and it can be done. Any questions you can call or email Kic Wheeler 10640
