We have the SIlverleaf system in our 2007 Allure.
Presently we are unable to use the Silverleaf dash mounted control to auto start the generator. The generator can be remotely started by using the Onan remote rocker switch located above the passenger seat, but not by the Silverleaf.
This happened once before and I called CC who, as I recall, advised a reset format that I don't now remember.
If others have experienced such a problem I will appreciate all responses. Is there a connection that may have become loose that is a common issue?
We are also not seeing any temperature indicated for the transmission on the Silverleaf but then the dash gauge doesn't appear to be reflective of a temperature rise either. I assume this may not be a Silverleaf issue but a disconnected sender wire or defective sender?? Gerry Brown

We had the same prolem with our coach and Silverleaf was re-programmed to allow for a longer preheat time. Ours originally was set for only 10 seconds, not nearly enough time, especially in cool weather. Does yours start from the Silverleaf after you have run it and allowed it to warm up?

We have the same problem on our allure, a 2008 #31619. We saw the silver leaf guys at Indio at FCMA rally, they ran a test on the brain in the bathroom wall. Said the info is not being transmitted from the transmission. It appears the auto start is working on ours, it just doesn't cycle long enough to get the glow plugs hot enough to start the generator.
WE plan on going to the good sam rally in new mexico in april. Hope to get more time plan in advance with the silver leaf guys. Or if CC comes back to life, we are still under warrenty. If you make any progress plan email me personal or post. I will do the same for you.

I had the same problem with my Silverleaf on my 2007 Allure. Only when it was cold outside. As I recall, I had to send the Silverleaf GENERATOR control module back to Silverleaf to be reprogrammed. I don't believe I was able to do it from the dash. It was programmed for the wrong generator, and did not have enough pre-start time.
Each time you tried, it always started from scratch. Worked with the switch over the door, or when the weather was warm.
On the 40' Hood River, it was necessary to remove the raised wood panel to access the area behind the thermostat and electrical controls, above the circuit breaker panel.

Thanks for the replies.
No, there is no start attempt indicated on the dash unit, either with generator cold or hot.
I frankly thought the Silverleaf generator components were a little too much and overkill initially but like electric windows in my cars 40 years ago, it has become a neat and useful feature.
Several have offered reset suggestions which I will try when I can get back to the unit in a week or so.

Make sure your generator slide is completely closed. CC programs the system so that the auto & remote start won't work when the generator slide is open. Probably a safety measure. That would also indicate that there should be a switch that is closed when the slide is closed.
This could be the problem if the slide is closed.

Good Afternoon all,
In the past few days I have been reading about Silverleaf on this group. So I went to the Silverleaf web site to do some homework about their system and was impressed with the system (VMS 240 CL) and bought one for me and my 2004 inspire. I believe I did the right thing with this purchase but I would like others opinions about the product. Feel free to criticize,I have tough skin!

I too have a 04 inspire and the idiot lights made me feel very uncomfortable as well as the gauges. I did not opt for the 240 cl but instead use the vmspc software on my pc with the interface. I would not be without and do not even look at the dash. Gauge readings on the dash are 10 to 15 degrees off of the silverleaf as well as the overheat idiot light. It goes on even though I am running cool. I think you did the right thing in getting a silverleaf system. Have fun with it.

Just in case anybody is interested, I have a Silverleaf harness I removed from my 2002 HR Endeavor last week as I get ready to sell it. It has a serial DB-9 connector, not a USB, so you may need a serial to USB converter if you do not have a 9 pin serial port on your laptop. This harness is for pre 2007 rigs.
Silverleaf gets them back on upgrades and resells them for $229. I would take $150 for it. Software of course is free online.

I'm thinking of getting the Silverleaf VMSpc. However, I am unable to find the diagnostic port to determine which type it is. I've tried to look from below but my aged (alright, fat) body doesn't get under there too easily. I've moved the dash cover back to try to find it from above but still no luck.
Open to any hints from this all knowing group.
Still trying to determine the best access to 110 AC to power the laptop without having an extension cord hanging.

I added a 115V outlet to the left of the 12V outlet already there. I ran it from the TV supply (behind the small storage cabinet to the left of the TV) down the left side windshield post, under the dash and over to a wall plate. I checked with an electrician versus any RV requirements such as conduit, etc. None stated but if that is wrong I am sure someone here will point it out. The wire is as or better protected than the other 115V lines running all over the coach so I doubt there is a problem. Of course watch where it is run for rub spots, etc.
I admit I got the idea to place it there because that is exactly where CC had one in our 2000 Intrigue. We just didn't spend enough to get one in an Inspire from the factory. ;-)

Bob,
Thanks again, i saw the panel with the four screws, it's about 12" square. That will be tomorrows project. As to power, I have a power strip in the upper right overhead cabinet in the front of the coach. If I can remove the inside right wall, I should have access to the windshield post. I'm thinking of just running an extension cord down and leaving about three or four inches out at the bottom of the post. I surely don't have enough talent to be messing with an outlet in the front of the dash. Luckily I know my limitations.
Appreciate your help. By the way, how do you like the Silverleaf? Do you find it helpful? They have the new model with the USB plug instead of the serial port. RVUpgrades is selling them for $340 which is $55 less than Silverleaf (go figure),

Hi George:
Running the 115V wasn't difficult but your way will work just as well. I've seen other Inspire owners adding additional outlets in several places and they come in handy. Cheryl has one of those steering wheel toppers and we run a small lamp off the same outlet.
Silverleaf - I have had one for several years and find the information very interesting and helpful. As Inspires have less than excellent gauges the accuracy of the digital readouts directly from the sensors is very helpful. You will not believe the differnces that you will see between what the dash will say and what the Silverleaf will show. In particular transmission temps. The dash will have you sweating your're damaging the transmission when in actuality it is fine. It can and does get hot idling in traffic but not nearly as bad as the dash claims. Blame poor gauge design and CC picking the worst case sensor for the trans temp.
The VMSpc is helpful for lots of things.
Now, unfortunately, my experience with the product isn't stellar. It has worked about 10% of the time I have owned it. I just sent it in to them for replacement (trade-in) for the USB version. The first problem was I couldn't get it to run at the same time as a GPS map system. I like to run the VMSpc on top of the map to see where I am, etc. The VMSpc would overwhelm the PC and lock it up. I could only run one or the other. I asked the Silverleaf guys who claimed no one else was having a rpbolem and it was probably my Toshiba PC having problems with using a serial port adapter, the had seesn that, so I lived with it. with hindsight I think it might have a dodge but I don't know that. When I replaced that PC the problem did not go away but by then the warranty was long gone. I am on my third laptop now and the thing won't work at all. I believe it was a defective unit from the get-go but there was nothing I could do about it after I let the warranty run out. I want one bad enough I am paying the trade-in price for the USB model - at least it's cheaper than an outright new unit. The odds are with me that I won't get a bad one this time. I also will not waste a minute making sure I get a good one and it operates correctly versus the warranty.

Bob,
One thing to keep in mind is that the sensors for the analog guages and the sensors for the ECCM are not the same. There are two sets of sensors for data values that the dash guage display. Often the two sensors are not even in the same place such as the ones for transmission temps. Also every physical measurement such as temperature is inheritantly analog and requires an analog to digital conversion to send the measurememnt to the ECCM in digital format. Analog to digital converters have their own set of error factors that may be no better that analog instrumentation depending on price.
Just because the value arrives at the ECCM and on to the Silverleaf as digital does not insure it's accuracy when compared to a know standard. As always, comparing two metered values that have not been calibrated against a know standard can lead to selecting the wrong one as being closer to correct.

Hi Don,
I used to be a health physicist (radiation safety professional) and I was forced to learn more about metrology than I ever expected. Thanks for the explanation, it refeshed my memory. One of the alleged issues with the CC installations is the length of the signal wire and the resulting resistence. This would add to any lack of calibration. Unless one accounts for all sources of error there will be no accuracy and there are many sources some not even recognized.
My belief, and that's all it can be without the calibrations you descibe, is there are fewer sources of error with the digital Silverleaf. The sensors it uses are no more accurate than the designers of the engine and transmission determined is necessary for them to operate as intended. They never intended them to be used by owners for evaluation of things like fuel economy. It bothers me how some owners take the Silverleaf as gospel, 6 sigma accurate info. Compared to the Inspire instrumentation it is still an improvement. When mine works (another story) I like that there is the ability to apply correction factors based on experience. After I get my new unit I will take a few thousand miles to determine the fuel mileage as physically measured and calculated and compare it to what the Silverleaf says. Apply a factor to bring them together and I have something useful. Note I didn't say accurate because it will merely reflect total usage not directly or only engine fuel consumption. I find this to be more helpful and an improvement over the factory instrumentation.

Guys, I guess my point is that it probably doesn't matter in any mechanically significant or user information way if the readout is off by, lets say, a whole unit . . . whole degree for example (though we 'should' be doing this with the metric system and using Kelvin for temperature).
If the coolant readout is 190 degrees does it matter if it's really 189, 190 or 191 - no. On all the data readouts we scan there is no black/white line that says this number is OK, the next one up/down is fatal. Heck, we guess on the engine oil with a dipstick that gets us within one quart in 20-30 quarts or so - that's a questionable second significant digit. We can live with it, as I suggest above, because we've got substantial safety ranges, like a large acceptable temperature range. Close is good enough on just about all the data we process. I'm not suggestions we be careless with the numbers, but IMHO we don't need to split hairs on these numbers.
It goes without saying that these comments are based on the sensors, etc doing their jobs as designed. Nevertheless, if there is a sensor 'problem' the readout will likely give us the clue we need to act.
We ought to be OK at, say +/- one unit in the third significant digit, but not 10 units. 190 degrees +/-1 degree is OK; 190+/-10 degrees is not acceptable. I doubt the Silverleaf readout system we use is as poor as +/-10 units. And, yes my position is that the sensor equipment we have is accurate enough.
Someone who doubts that would need to demonstate the inherent and significant inaccuracy of the tools.

A. If you have a Disconnect All switch by the entry door, flip it off for 30 seconds, then back on. You'll have to reset the refrigerator propane alarm off/on too. That alarm sound will get your attention!
or
B. Look for the main Silverleaf box. (Mine is in the second bay, road side). Pull the main connection for 30 seconds.
C. Look for the reason the Silverleaf lit up.

For some time I have not been able to start or stop my generator with the silverleaf. It worked fine for a couple of years and stopped. I noticed that in the drive mode it showed the trans 6-5 when I was in 6-6 or any other gear. When I stopped I switched it over to Gen. and the wave line was moving so I pushed knob and generator shut off like it should. Started and stoppe it several times and worked just fine. Also noted that my front headlights were not working going down the road. ( works with switch but not running lights when key is on ) The smart wheel now will flash the headlights at all times. In past when running lights were on it would not work. When headlight switch was on in the past that was the only time it worked.
I had trouble with door lock and alarm so I tested the 10 wires in door and found that a power wire and gound wire were bad. They had two extra wires so I used them to replace the bad ones. Key fob and alarm work find now. I also installed a wet kit but I am sure that had nothing to do with it.
Glad the lights flash in day now but would like ot have the running lights back and the shift info on sliveleaf to be working. Anyone had any of these problems and if so what was done.

Don, try these two 'resets' to address the SilverLeaf/GenSet communication.
1.... Find the main SilverLeaf module, a black box about 1-2" thick by 5" by 4," labeled SilverLeaf Electronics. Mine is in the 2nd bay driver's side, in a box on the sidewall. Get the GenSet running. At the SilverLeaf Module, disconect the 'Main' plug (mine has a green light next to it) for at least 30 seconds, then reconnect.
If that doesn't solve the communications try this.
2....At the entry door, do a 'Battery Disconnect.' Wait at least 30 seconds. Turn the 'Battery Disconnect' back on. Often the Refrigerator alarm, at its base, will start chirping LOUDLY. Flip it off/on.
good luck.

Vic,
If you don't find it, you can do a quick mental calculation, as follows: Double the Celsius reading, subtract 10%, add 32. For example, 20 degrees Celsius converts to 68 degrees Fahrenheit ( 20x2 =40, minus 10% =36, plus 32 = 68).

Nate You guys make it too difficult to convert !! 32 is 0 Deg C. For every 5 deg C it is 9 Deg F. Therefore 5C is 41F 10C is 50F 15 C is 59 F, 20C is 68F and I could go on. It is easier this way than the formula. You guys will eventually get Celsius, as you now are the only major country in the world without it. Once you grab on, the change is not significant.

Why not change your display to Fahrenheit?

We just purchased a 2005 Inspire and I brought my Silverleaf connector and notebook display with me from my last (Monaco) coach. I see a data plug in the rear bay but is there one up front too? How many pins will it have?
Thanks,
Jim

Jim,
In my '04 Inspire, it's behind the square panel to the left of the drivers seat. Four screws to remove.

We have a 2005 Inspire and there is a plug (6 Pin?) under the shifter panel inside a access cover that comes off with 4 screws... you may have to change the engine type, etc on the Silverleaf pc..
Good luck

In the transmission column next to the driver seat. Easy hookup. Number of pins? Sorry not with my coach.

Stan, go to the Silverleaf website, find and download the 'Silverleaf Seminar' document. Read and learn.

I have your cell and sent you mine a while back about the Rally. We will be at the rally in Pheonix. I will show you what I know on my Silverleaf.
