I am thinking about moving into the high tech world and getting a GPS unit. I need one that comes preloaded with detailed maps that can be placed on the dash for my viewing. Our computer is a MAC so I can't download additional maps easily. I am looking at a Cobra 3000 and a IWAY 500C so far. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Have you considered the voice activitated unit that has no screen? I have been looking at it and it cost about $1,000, but from the writeups it appears to be pretty neat. For example, the feature that would allow my wife to tell it she is lost and the system to determine where she is would be of great value. I think the GPSstore.com has it, but you can do a Google search to find it.
