Anyone using 303 protectorant on your roof? How are you applying it and are you satisified with the performance?
I just had coach detailed and roof washed. I had the detailers treat the roof with some 303 I had provided. This is the first time I have used it. Not sure why, but I am getting even more and different kinds of streaking stains down the sides after a rain or when the heavy morning dew runs off.
Any opinions or advice from the 303 experts out there???
If you do not use 303, then how do you take care of the roof? Have you found anything that works better?

Jim,
I'm using 303 on the roof as a UV blocker for the EPDM roof. For a while I treated the roof a couple of times a year with another product I got from Camping world. I stopped using it because it was hard to keep from going over the sides. Like you I'm not sure that the investment in the 303 product was worth it due to the streaking I am getting. So if anyone has some advise I'd like to see it.
Bob,
Did they apply some special wax that also acts as a UV blocker? --

Jim:
I solved the problem in Junction City at Blue Rose Detailing. I had them buff the roof, wax it and the coach. I have not had anymore trouble. I am going back to J.C. in late May or early June for another wax job (coach and roof). If the roof needs buffing again I will have it done again too. Waxing is probably all that will be needed on the roof. So far...so good. I am confident that you will be happy with the results.
When the problem first occurred the coach had been waxed once. I did not know I had to tell them to do the roof. I am very fussy about maintenance and appearance. I was ready to dump the coach and get something else. Like I said, the problem is solved. Perhaps Country Coach took care of the roof problem on later model?

I do the entire roof with GelGloss and then apply a carnuba wax.
Being a large flat surface I use a rotary waxer which makes it much easier & faster. I found the rotary waxer did a better job of getting rid of the oxidation than I could do by hand. I have not had a streaking problem since utilizing this regimen once a year.
Works for me..............

Linda,
GelGloss is a polish cleaner for fiberglas, marble, stainless steel, etc. It comes in a pink can. I last got it in a gallon jug at Camping World. I've seen it at Lowes, Home Depot and Ace hardware in pint cans. I use it a lot on the motorhome as well as at home.
Hope this helps..............

Steve,
How does this GelGloss work? My gloss coat on the roof is pretty much gone to where its just a dull finish. Is this product a candidate to help that? Thanks,

GelGloss is a white liquid that goes on/off very easily. My coach was 4 years old & obviously never had a roof wax. I first put it on by hand & it polished the surface, but I was not thrilled with the results as I could see oxidation below the surface. The next year I used the rotary polisher to apply & remove the GelGloss and I was much happier. Is it as shiny as the clear coated sides? No, but it is very shiny compared to the surface I started with. From a ladder it appears very shiny. Every year it gets better, but it is at the point I'm a little concerned I may slip off. Don't forget the carnuba wax!
Hope this description helps.........

Thanks Steve.
You've got me motivated now. And I was looking for an excuse to buy a nice rotary polisher anyway.

Back in December or early January we applied 303 to our roof. I don't really know if we had black streaks before but we do now. Our coach was stored inside until we bought it last August. We don't appear to have oxidation as described by some (its not rough or dull). We have driven it about 14k miles since we bought it so it didn't sit much until we got home in December.
What causes the black streaks?

Yes, we're using 303 on the roof which is what CC recommended in one of their Destinations mags. No streaking anymore. Applying it about 2x a year per directions.

Jim,
303 has worked wonders for me. My coach is under trees and subject to mil dew in the summer. So far, 303 has stopped the mil dew and makes roof cleaning a breeze. I waxed the roof with a fiberglass wax too. I am also using 303 on tires and coach that get sun. Only time will tell if it helps block the UV.

Jim (and others),
Has anyone mentioned that 303 is what the CC website recommends using to prevent roof oxidation from recurring? Check the FAQ list:

I think where my problem started was when I had a detailer put it on.
He swabbed it on heavy. The excess ran down the side and then when it rains more of it comes off roof and runs down and streaks side. Now that I have had a couple of roof washings to get some of the excess off it has stopped streaking.

303 is a UV product sold by Camping World which lots of us use on our roof. It is easy to apply and can be used on other things including tires. It contains no petroleum products. It will stop the sun from chalking you fiberglass roof thus saving your clear coat from peeling where it meets the roof.

Mike,
Don't know the answer to that, Although I don't think it can hurt. What have you been using on your roof for UV? You have a 98, so if you have not used anything then you need to use an automotive compounder with a buffer on the roof to get the chalking off before you use 303. At least that is what CCI people recommend and that is what I did on my 01 when I discovered chalking.
