I have a Weber Baby-Q grille I'd like to run off of my on-board LP tank. The grille has a regulator of its own...does that mean I should tap into the tank before the on-board tank regulator? The grille is initially designed to run off the small 1lb. bottles of propane. Is there any issue with the ability of the grille's regulator to handle a larger lp tank flow? Are the fittings used to tap into on-board tanks standardized or will I need to measure my tank's outlet? Thanks for any assistance in resolving these questions for me.

Hi Tony,
I'm with you on this. MY DW just bought me one and I'm wondering about the same questions you have raised. I look forward to the answers.

I brought up this topic before and was also told to look at a Marshall Extend-a-Flow. BUT, our Intrigue propane plumbing does not have anything that looks anything like the connectors on the Marshall. The only Marshall Exend-a-flows I have found have a POL fitting and our coach has no POL fittings anywhere. It looks like I would have to plumb in a standard 3/8" FIP or other to get into the connections. There is also the issue of what side of the auto shut- off valve to connect to. What type of fittings do the 2000 Intrigues have?

Al,
Are you saying that the Marshall Extend-A-Flow replaces the plumbing coming out of the valve going to the regulator or that you have to do this in addition to the Marshall? Also, could some one please explain POL and FIP as it applies to propane tank fittings? Thanks.

Tony: The Extend-A-Flow has a male POL fitting that screws into the fitting on the tank valve. It has a 'T' that provides a one inch 20 male for the hose that goes to your BBQ (or other device) regulator, and a female POL that you screw into to go to your regulator on your coach. So you have to remove the plumbing between the valve and the regulator, install the Extend-A-Flow, and then re-plumb the connection between the Extend-A-Flow and your regulator (the hardware is the same as before but you have to shorten it).
POL (properly P.O.L., what it exactly stands for I don't know) is the type of fitting coming out of propane tanks (like your coach or the 5 gallon ones). FIP stands for "Female Iron Pipe".

I have heard two terms for this: POL = Put-on-left or prest-o-lite.

On my Intrigue I cannot find a normal propane valve that includes a POL fitting. The external valve is connected to what looks like a 3/8" hose that is connected to a brass fitting that fits in the hole in the tank where a standard valve would go. I don't think that fitting is POL as it has thread sealant. I also can't find a fitting anywhere on the external valve that looks like POL. I've had a lot of RV's and a lot of propane tanks and I have an Extend-a- Flow from my fifth wheel days but for the life of me I can't find a POL fitting anywhere on my propane system. Maybe Tony has the same setup since his coach is also an '05.

That's my plan. I looked even closer and the regulator is a box that is directly connected to the tank with a short right angle pipe. This looks like the same setup that is in my friends sailboat.

Hi All - And a Happy 2012 to you all!!
I may have missed this as I attempted multiple searches to see what I could find. This seemed to be the closest thread, so I thought I would pick up on this older thread.
I have an 04 Allure, and want to splice in a Extend-A-Flow, or equivalent, to use with Weber, Fire In A Can, etc.
Looking at our tank, I see in this order:
-Handle to turn off/on is on the side of the tank, about 1/3 of the way back from the bay door.
-Moving towards the door, I see what looks like a 6-8" aluminum cover, which I assume is over a regulator(?).
-Coming out of the side of it towards the front, is a pipe. This pipe has a T fitting, and then proceeds to a another fitting that has electrical wires and switching that I assume is the LP cut off/on valve from the LP detector switch below the fridge(?).
-From this comes out the piping and fittings that work their way up to the LP Range top within the rig.
Going back to the T fitting, it has a plug going into a female thread, looks like it is 1/2 or maybe 5/8' plug. IS THIS THE RIGHT PLACE FOR ME TO SPLICE IN MY TAP FOR EXTERNAL LP USAGE? (I assume this is it, but looking at the Extend-A-Flow kit, did not see a male adapter to replace the plug. May have missed it in the kit.)
If I turn off the LP valve, remove the plug, hit the hardware store, and then find a male to male adapter, is this not where I should then be able to hook up the hose from the Extend-A-Flow?
Sorry if this is old news, and I missed it in my search. Just did not want to mess up when it comes to LP!
TIA,
Smitty

Smitty,
It depends on the fittings on the appliance you want to operate.
If the the appliance has it's own small regulator like the ones on most portable BBQ's and other portable items, then you must take high pressure gas from the tank before the main house regulator. This requires a special "T" fitting. Marshall brass is the most popular manufacturer of this "Tee". This "T" has a male threaded outlet that looks like the one one on small "throw-away-when-empty" propane canisters. It automatically stops flow when the take off hose is unscrewed. Any hoses connected to this fitting must be high pressure certified. It pays to purchase a brass cap/cover to protect the threads.
On the other hand, If your appliance does not have a regulator, you can hook-up to the low pressure side of the house regulator using low pressure shut-off valve, hoses and fittings. Some folks prefer this set-up. They claim it is safer. Mine is like the one described above.
Her is another system that will to confuse the issue: My fire pit has a regulator and hose with a fitting that is designed to attach directly to a portable propane tank. These tanks are popular for home BBQ's and are available in various capacities down to one gal.

Thanks Daron - That clicks, and I should have picked up on the before/after the regulator determination. The Baby Q Webber does have a regulator, don't know but will look at the Fire In A Can (suspect it does too).
I will need to crawl under and look up, to check out the space on the input side to the regulator, looks tight from my bay door view. But figure this has been done a few times before:)!

Hi Thomas, if asking about my Allure. It is: -31017
-40' High Cascade with tag
-Two slides driver side
-LP is on the Passenger side, and only feeds the Fridge and Stove/Range top
Daron's post, made it click that I need to be sure I know what side to splice into. Before/After regulator, so I'll climb under the coach in the AM, to validate that what I assume is the regulator is so, and see what kind of space exists on the intake side of the regulator.

Smitty,
been there done that. :)
There are some pictures of my installl on the photo section of this site that shows how I connected it to the low pressure side of my tank fitting behind a shut off connection and quick disconnect.

I thanked Dallas via PM too, but wanted to confirm that his 04 Intrigue LP looks to be the same as my 04 Allure. I missed his pictures in my board search, and they will help.
Got a plan to move forward...
Thanks to all,
