Going on a 5% grade, I could not get over 30 MPH without towing and unloaded except for fluids and two people. It was the shakedown cruise. I noticed that the Silver Leaf indicated a maximum of 850 pounds of torque when the advertised torque is 1,100. No matter what combination of gears or RPM could increase the torque or the speed. I was passed by every other moving vehicle including other CCs.
Someone mentioned that they had heard that Caterpilar had issued some flashes to rechip the engine. My maximum boost also never exceeded 26- 27.
Because my transmission (Allison MH-3000) temperature was 214-216, I called the 24HR hotline. They said that the engine may be running derated. However, there are no fault codes or diagnostic data in SilverLeaf.
Any suggestions or similar experiences?

My C9 does not reduce power with 210 degree F engine temp & 216 transmission temp. Silverleaf shows me 98% power from 2100 to near 2300. Silverleaf shows us over 1100 #' torque near 1500 R/M. Boost limits @ 30 to 31 PSIG. Boost is over 30 even over 11,000 feet altitude, after a long delay. Cat may take 22 seconds to make first 11 PSI @ high altitude, say over 5000 feet. Cat may need 10 seconds to resume power after a few seconds of coasting @ 1700 R/M. I hope your Cat is not into delays like our is. Our cat was not due any computer update last September. Coach was built in August.
We do not have high volume EGR or enlarged cooling systems like Cummings & Detroit use. Cooling has not been a problem. Peak transmission temperatures are usually due to city traffic.
I assume your temperatures are per Silverleaf, as my dash gages are up to 40 degrees off true.
Have you asked Allison what temperature causes power reduction? Less than 265 F?
Have you asked Caterpillar what temperature causes power reduction? Have you checked the air gage that measures air filter restriction? A friend bought a Fleetwood Pace Arrow that got less than 2 M/G. He found carpet between carburetor & air cleaner.
Hope this helps.

I spoke with CC and after checking the engine serial number (coach manufactured late november 04) the found two flashes (electronics updates) that are meant to increase fuel delivery, power and boost.
I am scheduled to take it to the Cat service Center on Monday. CC agreed that I should be able to get to the advertised 1,100 pounds of torque around 1600 RPM. Will keep the group posted.

Friend of mine had same problem, took it in to Cat and found some problems that they fixed.
Mine on the other hand, went up Grapevine at 55mph towing dinghy.

The rig is at the CAT service center. They have verified the powe issue. Tomorrow they will try a new flash for the engine and also they are taking it for a test drive through the mountains with computers and equipment hooked up so CAT can analyze the low power issue. Will keep the BB posted.
Also, it was announced yesterday that on 6/24 CAT will release a new engine flash for the C-9 engines.
