Does anyone have a source to by 8D deep cycle batteries in the Morris County area of New Jersey. I called around to a lot of RV and Marine places, but they don't have or can't get 8D's in less than a month.

Arthur,
Is there a Les Swabb in your area? They are nation wide and that is where I get my batteries. You can go on the Internet and look for a location near you.

Go to the Interstateweb site and search for a distributor in your area. I was just at the distributor in Albany NY and he has at leat six of them in stock and they are fresh, May 05.

Rick,
No Les Swabb (sp?) within at least 500 miles of New Jersey, but thanks for the suggestion.

Mike & Marge,
My Interstate distributer is in Hackettstown, NJ - Very nice people, but don't carry 8D's in stock and can't get them for another 6 weeks unless I want to pay $35.00 additional shipping for each one. I am told they are made by US Battery in CA and sold under the Interstate name. They are identified as Interstate number USRM-8D. I have tried most (if not all) of the traditional sources - just thought some one in Jersey has solved this problem before.
Thanks for the help.

You can have them delivered from the Battery Mart in 4-5Days by buying them on line. I bought 2 AGM's for $259.00 a piece and they delivered them to my door in 5 days. I am in Florida and they are in Winchester, Virginia. The Batteries are made in PA. by DEKA. That's batterymart.com.

John Bicknas,
I called batterymart.com - the downside was $200 to ship up to New Jersey. Your suggestion did get me started in looking for Deka locally. Turns out they are carried by the Car Quest chain. Although my local store did not carry the AGM's, they did carry the flooded battary for $164. Thanks for your help!!

Hi Arthur (And all CC), Our current trip to eastern PA allowed us a chance to visit the factory retail sales outlet of East Penn Mfg. Co. (DEKA Batteries) in Lyons, PA. 4 miles south of Kutztown between Allentown and Reading. We purchased two 8D factory "blems" at $88 and change each. $8.25 credit for your old battery. Recharged or returns-on-warranty batteries (8D's that were probably discharged by other faulty equipment) were only $60 each. Mine are working fine and even if they only last 3 years as opposed to 4 or 5, the savings is there. We visit this area often and plan to buy there always.

E. Williams,
I looked into Deka (East Penn), but they only had a "commercial grade" dual use flooded 8D's and an AGM. The AGM's were quoted at about $350 in the PA store, which I thought was to high. Another member of the group reported that he got the Deka AGM's for $260 on the internet, but then add shipping to NJ at $100 each.
The dual use commercial is described by their engineer as a heavy duty starting battery that is build "well enough" to use for deep discharge service. It sounded like to much of a compromise to me.. Do you know which batteries you got - model number or name???

Art, I got the dual-use flooded 8D's. They were "blems" which the salesman told me were "almost as good as" the expensive first-grade ones. I picked 2 up & installed them myself. I was only 20 miles from the factory. Saved me a bundle. 2 8D's and a regular 27F for my diesel generator totaled $146.00 and some change. I'm not sold on the AGM and I don't do more than 2 or 3 days dry camping at a time so 2 8D's for house batteries work fine for me. Good luck.
