On our way home from picking up our new 2006 Affinity the end of our trip turned into the trip from Hell.

While traveling on I-40 leaving California the bad road jarred the right mirror loose. As it started to tilt we pulled over to adjust it so as to better see the traffic. We luckly found a closed weight station and got off the road to safety. As my husband stopped and put the air brake, I was getting ready to go out of the door and adjust the mirror. There was a awful swooshing sound and the livingroom slide on the passenger side shot out. We both were shocked. After investigation we saw fluid gushing from near the fuel tank. It wasn't fuel it was hydrolic fluid. After an hour and a half of lots of heavy work on my husband's part and a sharp tech on the phone we got the slide back in and with strap holding it we got off the road to a service center.

Has anyone ever had this happen to them???

You lost a hose, or hose connection.

Both sides of the slide cyl are pressurized in the CC/HWH design.
The differential between the rod side and the non rod side of the cyl is what makes it move. That's how they get by with two way valves and not three way valves. The larger area of the non rod side overcomes the force from the rod side of the piston. If you lose pressure on one side, there apparantly is enough residual pressure in the other side to move the slide. Our slide moved out when one valve leaked. No mess, it just leaked back into the tank. You leaked on the ground and everything else.

Just a snow plow pump with manifold, not real complicated. Should be easy to fix if the blown hose is easy to get to.

John,

If it's just a loose fitting, Jean will be OK. If it's a broken line or bad crimp on one of the fittings, they will have their hands full getting is repaired. I broke a line on my 02 and there were only 3 places in Flordia that had the crimping tool and none of those had the fitting. HWH had to overnight me the fittings and I then found one of the shops with the tool who worked me in. It took two guys to hold the tool and crimp on the new fitting. They can not splice the lines, they have to be replaced.

I then had the syncronizing cylinder go bad, another nightmare. I replaced the cylinder with no problem, but then you have to tear the Coach apart to get to the room cylinders, unhook them and blead the air out.

My 04 is electric, no more hydraulics for me.....

Keep us posed on your progress Jean and good luck! Tom
