We are presently in Soldotna, AK and will be heading back to Bellingham via the ferry from Haines in August. We would like to visit Leavenworth; however, looking at what is available RV Park wise appears grim and the comments in rvparkreviews.com even more so.

Any suggestions or recommendations?

Many thanks.

Chuck, the Federal Bureau of Prisons operates a nice campground inside the wire. Electric only, with 50,000 amp service. The price is right with a retiree discount, and guests don't complain about the food. I hear the scenery is just OK.

Don't pick up hitch hikers.

Chuck, try the Wenatchee River County Park in Monitor, WA.
(http://www.co.chelan.wa.us/wrp/wrp1.htm) (http://www.co.chelan.wa.us/wrp/wrp1.htm)). Its only 15 miles from Leavenworth and has lots of spots that will hold a big rig. Paved sites, some shade, and on the river. There is a train on the other side of the river that blows the whistle before it gets to Monitor but its not too bad. If you want a satellite connection, try site 7 or 20. We haven't been there in our coach but our 36 foot fifth wheel and 550 Ford fit nicely. Also, the Wenatchee River Confluence State Park has some large sites. We've stayed at Icicle River, it has a few large sites and is a nice park. the KOA in Leavenworth is too tight for a 40' coach.

Icicle was recently recommended to us by several folks, too.
