We are in the process of designing our new home and would like to have the RV garage attached to it. My only experience with an attached RV garage was several years ago when we went to look at a coach for sale prior to buying this one. When the coach was started for a test drive, diesel smoke and fumes engulfed the entire garage - RV plus about two or three cars worth of space while it warmed up so that it could be driven.
What suggestions does anyone have, short of partitioning the RV part off, to deal with this smoke and fume thing?

What do the Fire Departments do?

Glen,

When I finished my garage last year, 30 X 50, I installed a poultry house fan in the rear wall. Mine is 40", but they make various sizes.
It pulls all smoke out with the coach running. I can send you a pic if you wish.

It's been over eight years since I've seen it in action, but there's heavy-duty steel ventilation hoses attached, magnetically, to the exhaust pipe of each diesel truck. All hoses go to a central exhaust system. When the trucks start, the diesel exhaust is safely evacuated by the ventilation system (which may or may not turn on automatically), and, since the hoses are only secured magnetically, the trucks can simply be driven away without having to disconnect them.

I could easily be wrong on the details, so I strongly advise you to check for yourself.
