Our 2005 Affinity does have the motion detector. They stopped including this in 2005 I hear. Entry door and bay doors only.
I am curious how they could crawl in the little driver side window on our coach. If they were that small, our puppies would woop 'em.

Anne,

I just contacted a friend that used to install auto alarms. His thought was.. you could get a decent alarm system that would work in an RV. Motion detectors could be used that would work in a zone or at a certain height off the floor, so our furry friends won't set off false alarms. He even said that you could alarm the windows with wireless switches that would look ok and work well too.

I wonder if there is ever an alarm company at any of the rallies?

It is cheap security and should provide some decent peace of mind.

You know, that's a good question about alarm companies at the rallies. After our experience, I'm sure we'll be on the lookout for them. I just don't remember if I've ever seen any of them at a rally....

I just replaced my original 20" panasonic TV (sound died) in 99 Allure.
Trying to find a replacement was difficult. We went through 3 other TV's trying to find one that would fit well with minimal work or changes. We settled on the Polaroid 20" TV/DVD @ Circuit City for $160.

Took about 2 hours worth of modifications to fit.

Our TV went out in January and we replaced with a 20" flat screen stereo. Performance is great but fit is a disaster :-( We have about a 3" gap across the top and it doesn't look very good. Gave the frame to an RV tech but he finally gave up and I still have it surrounded with two 1"x 4" unfinished pieces of pine. Looks terrible. The original frame still fits but the gaps really look stupid! I'll be watching for some suggestions. I don't have the tools or the skills to make a proper surround myself and haven't been able to find someone in the Denver area who could do this right without charging me the price of the TV or more.
Thanks

Ron: I've had my coach for about 7 years now. If you look in the photos under this forum, you'll see an upgrade I did myself about five years ago. I originally used a 24" flat Panasonic. To make it fit, I turned the wooden bezel upside down and added a small piece on top to cover the hole left by moving the TV back.
About three years later, I revised the whole thing and installed a 37" LCD which required total cabinet work over. We have really enjoyed the larger screen. The LCD is lighter weight than Plasma by about 50 lbs. It makes it easier to mount.
The original photos are entitled "larry ha.." They are about 12 photos into the group. The 37" current TV is near the end and is entitled "my photos". As you can see, I'm somewhat a novice at posting photos and have not properly labeled them. Oh well.

Good luck

Jim -

As I write this, we are sitting at Davis Cabinets in Junction City getting rid of the head knocker TV. We got a Sharp Aquos LC-37D7U. The install is just about finished and it looks great. They put two speakers on each side. We did not go with the "surround sound package."
Our coach #30536 is in the same era as yours so I can understand your desire to do an upgrade. We also changed the TV in the bedroom to a 27".

Good Luck with your project.

I used a Sharp 37' LCD for a couple of reasons: LCD's are lighter weight than Plasma's. I wanted the direct cable hookup from my laptop to the TV as a monitor, for showing pictures. It is done via DVI port on the Sharp. I bought a cable that is USB/DVI and it works like a charm.
Now I can bore my friends to tears showing them pictures of my "far above average Grandkids".
The modification requires removal of the factory component cabinet over the driver and fabricating a new cabinet to hold the control box for the Sharp, Control box for the K-5 Satellite receiver, multi-cable switch, DVD/VCR combo unit and 10 disc CD changer.
The new cabinet is built against the wall over the driver and runs parallel to the wall.
My two helpers: Trial and Error, were with me every step. I'm retired, don't drink, play golf poorly and really needed a project. This filled the bill. Oh yes, I still have all my fingers.
You can see the first modification in the Yahoo photos and the latest ones also.
One other suggestion: I installed a small 110v computer fan in the component cabinet for potential overheating. Fortunately I have not had to use it thus far since I have not been in hot conditions since the remodel.
I have been traveling with some friends with SOB (Dutchstar and Pheaton) and notice that their component cabinets have an open side or bottom covered with screen to allow ventilation.
Apparently overheating of components can occur and precaution dictates leaving room for air to travel behind them.

Well said, Egon. I just completed a round trip from Texarkana, Ar to Junction City and enjoyed the magnificent scenery of our country along with the magnificent performance of my CC. Too often we get enamored of gadgets and lose sight of the enjoyment of travelling. At the same time those who use all the gadgets enjoy what they are doing, also. I guess the old saying " different strokes for different folks " applies.

Kathy,

That is great. I know you will enjoy it. I hope you will share some photos of the installation.

I have been looking at the Sharp LCD's but I have been concerned with their specifications on their operating temperatures. Do you know if there have been any reported problems with LCD's in coaches failing because they are parked in high heat areas? Here in Florida temperatures can get well above the temperature specifications of all of the LCD TVs I have looked at so far. What does Davis say about any potential damage to LCD TVs if parked where inside temperatures of the coach are way beyond the specifications of the TV's?

Thanks for the info. I know what you mean by the expert on some of the wood work. I am more a hobbyist in work with wood, but I do have a younger brother nearby that is a cabinet/furniture maker. I think I will ask for his expertise. I have to just decide on which TV I want to install. I have been concerned about the temperatures the inside of the coach gets to when parked here in Florida. Not sure if the high temps pose a potential problem with the LCD TV's.
I sent Panasonic a dew questions about it and have yet to hear from them. Did you ever look into that aspect?

Take plenty of photos of your progress and share your experience as you proceed.

Larry,

What is the model number of the Sharp you installed?

I used a Sharp 37' LCD for a couple of reasons: LCD's are lighter
weight than Plasma's. I wanted the direct cable hookup from my

laptop to the TV as a monitor, for showing pictures. It is done via DVI port on the Sharp. I bought a cable that is USB/DVI and it works like a charm.

The modification requires removal of the factory component cabinet
over the driver and fabricating a new cabinet to hold the control box for the Sharp, Control box for the K-5 Satellite receiver, multi- cable switch, DVD/VCR combo unit and 10 disc CD changer.

The new cabinet is built against the wall over the driver and runs
parallel to the wall.

This filled the bill. Oh yes, I still have all my fingers.

You can see the first modification in the Yahoo photos and the
latest ones also.

One other suggestion: I installed a small 110v computer fan in the
component cabinet for potential overheating. Fortunately I have not had to use it thus far since I have not been in hot conditions since the remodel.

I have been traveling with some friends with SOB (Dutchstar and
Pheaton) and notice that their component cabinets have an open side or bottom covered with screen to allow ventilation.

Apparently overheating of components can occur and precaution
dictates leaving room for air to travel behind them.

Jim - Good question about the heat issue. I will pose that question to "John" of Custom Coach Electronis who is doing the whole install.
Not being very computer literate - and no digital camera - I can't post the pictures but I have taken a few which I would gladly share with you.
I hope to meet up with Jan McNeill next month and will enroll in her Computer 101 class and learn a few of these things!!

Roughly speaking, what does Davis charge to do the tv modification on a 20" not counting the TV? Thanks

Jim I really haven't given the heat question much thought but maybe I should? I know there is a lot of sophisticated equipment in these coaches and they seem to do alright so I guess I'm not too worried. I took the old tv out today and set the new one in just to see how far off things were and they aren't too bad. One thing is that the tv should have speakers below the screen rather than above because with that configuration it makes the set too wide.
