I have the Cummins ISL 400. George, unlike an auto whereby you would normally turn off the AC to relieve engine load and thus gain cooling, on our rigs turning the AC on will initiate the high speed on the fan.
So, that explains why you dropped to 187 or so when you turned the AC on. I learned from CC today that RPM is also a trigger point and that it is programable. So, if the RPM is set too high and you are pulling up a steep grade and can't reach that RPM level comfortably the fan may not come on. We will be going to the Oregon rally and have the RPM level checked there and if too high we will have it reset to a lower RPM to turn the fan on sooner. Thanks to both of you for the input.
