Hi All,
Still having trouble trying to get my ice maker working. Down to the last possibility, the thermal link.
Know nothing about thermal links. How do you tell if they are bad? Do they burn out like a regular fuse? Do they reset themselves? Can they be replaced?
As always, all responses greatly appreciated.

A thermal link is a thermal fuse. An over-current and/or over-temperature condition will cause it to open. Test it just as you would a regular fuse. With an ohmmeter, it should show as a low resistance. (Almost zero ohms.) If it reads as an open circuit, it is bad. They are not resettable. Usually can be replaced, if you can get the correct replacement. Try PPL Motorhomes parts website and look for your particular ice maker unit. If bad, you might want to find out why it operated in the first place before you replace it.

Dave,
Thanks, one question. By "open Circuit" you mean there will be no reading on the ohm meter?

George,
If the thermal link is good, the meter should read about the same as if the meter leads are connected together, in other words a short circuit.
If the thermal link is bad, the meter should read the same as if the meter leads are not connected to anything, or in other words an open circuit.

Not sure what kind of fridge you have. Assume Dometic? If so, the heaters in the icemaker can go. Must replace icemaker then. Not hard, and not too expensive.

Rich,
It's a Norcold with a Whirlpool ice maker.
I've already replaced the entire unit as well as the water valve (solenoid), that's why I'm at my wits end. Then again I didn't have a lot of wits to begin with!

George, I am sorry, if it were a Dometic I could help you. Whirlpool, I am witless.
