Dick: It looks like the device you refer to is for an A&E awning.
From my perspective, the unfurling problem with ZipDee, and in my case, is that the hardware remains firmly in place as it should. A sudden gust of wind can get under the fabric and cause it to unwind.
I can see how properly winding it could lessen the chances of it billowing, but if the wind can't get under it, it should stay in place irrespective of the number of turns.
After installing the stainless baffles, I had one trip up Highway 95 along the mountains with strong winds enough to slow us down to 40 or 50 miles per hour for safety. The awning over the slide stayed in place.

I described that particular device as " ... one of the several commercially available devices ... "

I don't know if there's a device to suit each brand/model of awning, but, if there's none available for a particular awning, you can always make your own, as I did for a previous motorhome.
Haven't felt a need for one for our Intrigue's ZipDee awning 'cause it has a locking latch at each end of the roller, as well as the twist lock in the center. I guess I was wrong?
