Is there an easy way to ajust the tension on the shades? I have some that are way too hard to pull down.

You have to unscrew the bottom bar that is on the window sill. Be careful as the shade will then flop down as there is no tension on it.
Under the bar you will see the strings (left and right side)attached to a spring. Untie the strings from one side of the spring and let some slack out. I suggest no more that 1/2 inch to start with. It doesn't take much to release a lot of tension so you might want to let some slack out and try it and then adjust it to your liking.

I have some stiff blinds too, and I read somewhere to lubricate the strings with beeswax. Has anyone done this successfully?
