We're heading to Ft. Meyers, Florida to the CC East Coast Homecoming Rally the first of January. Does anyone know the conditions of I-10 from Lafayette, Louisiana to Baton Rouge and then the condition of I-12 from Baton Rouge to Slidell, Louisiana, and then !-10 on to Florida? The hurricanes really messed up that area, but it is still a route we prefer. Thanks.

Keep us posted if you have your guy re-paint your door. Mine has been re-painted 3 times and if what your guy says that he has a fix and it stays a fix, I would be interested.

The I-10/I-12 corridor was not damaged by the storm and the roads are just fine. You will still get slowed down as you get into the Jacksonville, FL area where they are still rebuilding the I-10 bridge damaged in the Hurricane the year before. It is still one lane East bound but they delay is usually not too long.
The part of I-10 that was damaged was the loop the I-12 by-passes.
That is the Southern loop into the New Orleans area. Beware of the trucks hauling debris and debris on the highway. There is no requirement for these trucks to cover their load and if you are anywhere nearby you are at risk. Because of this you need to keep your eyes open for debris on the road. Watch for people braking or swerving as warning that there's something in the way. The debris area would be from Baton Rouge to Mobile.

I think Bill meant the bridge in Pensacola....but the roads are fine except the bridge. There will probably be congestion and slow traffic in that area but thats it. In Louisana and Mississippi you may find the resturants, truck stops and gas stations closing early. When we came through from Ft Worth last month the truck stops in Slidell and Biloxi were closing as early 8 to 9 because of the lack of workers, gas and deisel seemed plentiful.
We hope to meet some in Ft Myers.

who just can't seem to find work after THREE MONTHS of free rent, etc, etc.
They obviously have no intention of working and should be bussed back to LA so that

We just drove it day before yesterday from Arizona to Jacksonville, FL. The road is fine. The r.v. fuel island is out at the Flying J in Port Arthur but the truck pumps are open. Some of the rest areas in Louisiana are closed but Mississippi is open. The Pensacola bridge is still one lane and metal grating but it isn't a problem. I would do it non rush hour of course.

Thanks Tammy, I most certainly did mean Pensacola. I tried to edit it for future readers.
As R.D. indicated, camping in this area is difficult and also less than perfect. They are crowding 2 campers onto 1 site in many cases and adding campsites where there was grass just to try to fit in all the people wanting sites. Most campgrounds are now being filled with permanents and taking on a different kind of atmosphere. While we never felt like we were in any danger, most of the people in the campgrounds are workers and not campers.
The businesses are still struggling, as was mentioned, to find workers. Even if they wanted to return, many have nothing to return to. The areas that were within a 1/4 mile of the beach from New Orleans to Mobile are mostly gone (yes, simply gone) and it will take many, many years for this area to recover. If you will be passing through the N.O. to Mobile corridor, stop and spend some money. They need all the help they can get.
