We are thinking of attending the Rolex 24 Hour Race next year. Does anyone have experience with infield camping? Any tips? Thanks in advance.

RE: Rolex 24 Hours @ Daytona

Daytona International Raceway spent a lot of money renovating the track interior area about 2 years ago and created a specialty vehicle area next to Lake Lloyd that has 50 amp electric, water and cable (the honey wagons come by often each day and charge $20). There is a clubhouse with internet stations, phones, restrooms, meeting rooms and a great outdoor, covered bar.
We reserved our space the first year after the renovation (space 71 on the lake) and have the right to renew each year. We're getting to know some of our neighbors after two years and looking forward to many more. Cost for the space is $640 (Thursday 6am til Monday am); tickets are $180 per person for the same time and get you most everywhere. New Fan Zone area is fun, garage area is accessible and you can sit anywhere in the grandstands.
The new turn 1 tunnel allows large vehicles access anytime. as well as your toad, which you can park at your site. Our only compliant this year was not being allowed in the night we arrived (Thursday) since the guy that "parks the motorhomes" had gone home for the night. No one at the gate was happy with that, and the truth is that after you go through the entry inspection and have the sticker placed on your windshield, you're on your on for parking, which is no big deal!
The event is great and a lot of fun. Bring your camera, ear plugs and be ready for some great sportscar racing!
