Just in case anyone is interested, I recieved a call today from the Cat factory that they just released a new reflash for the C9. This program (part# 289-1223) should help if you have an issue with engine surging or black smoke.

sometimes which someone wrote about, saying Cat and Allison have a hook up computer issue. Also, does your engine indicate about 210 to 215 degrees when running down thew highway??? Ned Inspire 51677

When I talked with Cat they did say this new update would also take care of the shift problems that some owners are experiencing.
To get the details, I would call Caterpillar RV support at: 1-877-777-3126.
My engine temp is often around 210 to 215 degrees on the gage, which reads about 12 degrees more than the ECM readings.

I have an Allure 2003 running a Cummings. I have had temp raise also, i think the thermosates in these enjoys need replacing about every three years. I read this in an article I believe in "Destination".
When I get a warning light I drop a gear and back off some, light goes out, temp drops. When I have just notice surges, temp. usually reaches about 215, and then just opens on its own and drops off. I look at thermosate on Cummings does not look like a big change issue. Also when I pick my coach up from CC last summer I was four gallons short of coolant. I am using the recommmeded premix which is a Cummings product and that could also be apart of my issue.

If temperature is still giving people problems, back in the fall of 2004 I posted pictures that are in the photo area of the CC experimental coach being tested in Arizona with various modifications.
I have done most of them on my 2002 Allure with the results being lowered temperature on the both the engine and transmission. If you do not have a louvered engine door, you can make a couple of support arms that hold the door open. Pictures are posted in the photo area.
This made a 20 degree difference. The flap added below the radiator stops hot air from re-circulating when at idle. My louvers are not nearly as large as those on the CC coach, but seem to help some. I have built a screen that keeps hands out of the engine compartment when the door is open. It stays in place when the door is closed.
Aircraft quick release pins allow the screen to be removed in a few seconds to check engine oil etc. One CC owner that visited us when in Seal Rock modified his Coach with the support arms with similar results. John
