I'm looking for information about these giant motor home resorts in Indio and other towns in that area (Desert Shores, Motor Coach Resort, etc.).
Anyone who has seen these places and researched them, please e-mail me with your thoughts on pros/cons of buying lots in them.
Are there any others besides the two mentioned above?

Glen,
We own a lot at Outdoor Resort Palm Springs, Ramon Rd.(Cathedral City) and love it here. Here are some web sites to look at. You can rent lots or own them, the monthly dues are $253 and include free golf on our 27 holes of par three. There are 11 pools and 13 spas and 14 tennis courts, two club houses, a cafe and store. 1213 sites that are 1925 square feet or larger.
I'd be glad to share more.

Glen,
We just purchased a golf course lot in Outdoor-Resort-Indio, which is the older resort in Indio. After looking at everything in the Palm Springs area we decided it was the best for us.
The first Outdoor Resort in Cathedral City is mostly 5th wheels.
The newest Outdoor Resort in Indio is pricy - $190,000 for a lot along the outside wall and $319,000 and up for a golf course/water lot.
Desert Shores is nice and pricy - starting at $400,000, but more than we want!
With Fiesta RV Park and Emerald Desert both closing the prices went thru the roof the last six months. Most lots increased in price 50% this season.

A few posts up, you'll see that I did buy a lot in the Motorcoach Country Club a week and a half ago.
I really liked the resort that you bought into, but, the waterways and boating got to me in the place that I bought into - and I paid dearly for it! The waterways aren't huge, but I just love cruising around on the water. It'll take me about an hour to loop the mile and a half of waterways, and that'll be a good cruise! I'm looking forward to it.
I did like all of the activities in your resort, however. There seems to be an unlimited amount of social activities there and that's a good thing.
I did like Desert Shores, too. It seems "pricey", but, I'll have that much invested after improvements to my lot in MCCC - and I won't have the large casita. The 1200 sf casitas in DS are very nice but we didn't think we needed that much room alongside our motor home. DS also did not have a golf course, nor navigable waterways. It seems to me that DS is a great place for full-timers to get off the road and have a winter "home base" for awhile.
Renting vs. buying. As said in previous posts, renters generally cannot use the amenities, plus, the resorts are pretty much full with owners during the winter so rental sites are hard to come by that time of year. I would imagine that many sites are for rent in July and Aug (108 degrees, though);-)!
With the demand increasing for lots in that area, most owners should be OK, investment-wise, I would think. Anyway, I jumped in and am happy about it.

Glen,
I agree with you completely. The RV lot values in the Palm Springs area will only go up. A couple raised their prices since I bought mine.
We are in lot 347 (or will be sometimes) at the older resort. Since all three parks on 48th Avenue allow us to visit each other maybe we can get together.

Norb & Glen,
What lots are you all on? I'm on lot #286; I bought it this past summer. We will have to get together for a few drinks.

My lot is #211, but I'm in Portland right now. Will be down there later this month for a few days.
