We travel with a few show dogs. I'm never comfortable leaving them crated in the coach with the AC on - either on shore or generator power for more than a few minutes. Too many horror stories in the past of power failures resulting in death of the animals. There are times when my wife and I want to stop and eat or go shopping, etc.
I know somebody makes an inside temp sensor that the limit can be set and if exceeded it would page me. I don't trust cell phone notification - too many dead spots in the US with any carrier - would almost need to be satellite signal.
Any ideas or referrals will greatly be appreciated!

Get a car alarm with paging remotes. Remotes will beep when when alarm is tripped. Add temperature switch to alarm. Many alarm systems have input terminals for external sensors such as glass break sensor or intrusion detectors. Wire the temperature switch as an external sensor. Add relay on 120 VAC with switch. When AC power is lost, relay will close (or open) external alarm input & remote will beep before temperature goes up. Switch with the relay will allow defeat of this function when needed.
Any relay with 120 VAC coil will do. Temperature switch can be a common home heating thermostat, less than $10. Use a plain mechanical thermostat, not an electronic or programmable unit.
First web I found is http://www.12voltdirect.com/pageralarms.aspx, (http://www.12voltdirect.com/pageralarms.aspx,) Second web is http://www.vidcam.com.au/sales/la9010.html (http://www.vidcam.com.au/sales/la9010.html)
Or you could switch to Siamese cats, they like the heat.

Thanks Eric, sounds like I should be able to rig something up. I found a system ready made but pager range is only 1 mile - not near enough - haven't carried a pager since they invented cell phones but bet I can find one that bounces signals off of a satellite - then no problem w/range. Think I'll visit my local "Car Toys" store.

Another way..If you have a Motosat/Direcway internet setup, you can buy a camera/alarm that will send an e-mail to a cell phone.
Verizon works for us. You can set it up to send an e-mail picture if movement is sensed. Setting it for a temp sensor should not be that difficult. For intrusion it is very easy ($120 for a Panasonic IP still camera and you are ready to go).Keeping in mind you have to have the Internet connection bought and paid for. To add a temp sensor should be pretty easy. As we have two dogs that stay "at home" while mom and dad are having fun, it makes sense to add the temperature option too.
Bet it is an off-the-shelf item and can be added on. Smarthome.com is a good place to start looking.
