Just wonder how tough it would be to install an auto start gen on our 98 Allure? Anybody done this and if so give me some direction on where to buy it and how to proceed?
Thanks

Hello all,

Have any of you 'hands-on' folks ever installed the Auto Gen Start feature on an Onan 8KW QuietDiesel? It appears fairly straight forward with basically just an additional control module and a plug in wiring harness. Is there something unknown here that a shade tree mechanic couldn't do on a week end?

Dave,

Do you currently have the RC7 controller? If so, it is a simple process of removing that one and plugging in a RC7-GS.

Don,

The only means of external control is a start/stop switch in the bedroom and another s/s switch and hour meter in the control panel above the coach entry door. If there is a controller somewhere, I'm not aware of it. Would the RC7 controller be internal to the generator? I've never had ocassion to open up the gen. housing.

Dave, I think Don is talking about the inverter control box above the entry door. I have the RC7-GS inverter control box and it will start the generator depending on a pre-selected battery condition.

Larry, Before I tear into something needlessly, do you mean that the controller is in behind the Xantrex panel above the door?

Larry, I just went to the Xantrex website. The RC-7 panel that is shown does not look like mine. Mine show battery level LED's, incoming power limiting choices and such. So maybe this would involve more than just replacing it w/an RC-7GS panel.

I made an assumption (I hope just one) while inspecting the Intrigue we just purchased. The coach is equipped with the Xantrex RS3000 inverter, which I thought had Auto Gen start capability, a feature on the Allure we also own. (it's for sale) After getting the Intrigue home and trying check the setup, it appears there is no auto start on this coach. How would I tell for sure? I removed the inverter control inside the coach and it only has 1 phone like cable attached to the back of the unit. The other port has a jumper? or terminator of some kind installed.

Hi Tom on the Intrigue the auto gen is controlled from the Silver leaf panel on the dash.

Magnum also makes auto gen controllers and one which will activate based on temperature and thereby allow your AC to operate.
