This is an old topic but maybe a new twist. For reasons not necessary to go into here, after 10 years with Direct TV I am considering a switch. Here are the basics of Direct TV billing. One set of program subscription costs + about $5.00 for a second receiver in the house and about $5.00 for a receiver in the coach. They acknowledge that one receiver is in the coach. Local programming is not an issue with us.
Here is what Dish tells me. TWO sets of program subscription costs + about $5.00 or so for a second receiver in the house plus about the same amount for an additional receiver in the coach. The big point being---TWO sets of program subscription costs, which of course is the big elephant on the monthly bill. Dish says the coach is a second house and therefore they MUST charge twice the subscription costs.
They even state that what Direct TV is doing is illegal and that our equipment could be confiscated if it is found out!. WOW! Good customer relations, que no? Info on the groups experience would be appreciated. Please--were not looking at penny pinching on how much an extra reciver is billed for, just the idea of TWO program subscription costs. Of course we could take a house receiver and put it in the coach when we leave but that also is not the question. What is your experience?

Lyle, we have High Definition in our coach, but not at home. We use Direct TV. In my old (non-HDTV) coach, I would take one of my home receivers for the bus... no problem. With HDTV, that was no longer an option.
At Direct TV's suggestion, I have two accounts now: one for the home (non HDTV) and one for the coach (HDTV).
Here's the good part: I only activate the coach account when we are going to use it. Other times it is inactive, and not racking up fees. So far so good.
Direct TV has worked well for us. If I can just get over the hump with my MotoSat, everything will be peachy!

On our Affinity the reel for the electric cord stopped reeling in. Is there a breaker someplace that could have popped? Thanks for any advise.

I'm a DISH customer with 3 receivers on a single account. Two in the house, one in the coach. Dish is aware of this but they have never asked if the coach ever leaves our back yard. Kind of a "don't ask, don't tell" situation.

Re: [Country-Coach-Owners] Dish TV vs Direct TV We have Dish. Started with it before we ever thot' of RV'ing. We bought a receiver and put it in the coach, but didn't say where it was going. Once we were out in the coach full time we filled out the RV/Truck form saying we were only in the RV and got the network channels for LA and New York. Not worried about a local feed.
What was aggravating is this coach came with HD TV's, so we upgraded one of the dish boxes to a HD box last Nov. when we got the coach. Now, looking at Dish's new programming packages for HD, we would have to upgrade to another HD box and to get one of their new HD packages we would have to have a Dish 1000 dish, or 3 LNB lines. So that idea was out. The King Dome only does so much. If you sit still and put up a Dish1000 with the 3 lines, and upgrade to one of their new HD boxes, you could get the HD picture.

I call directv and tell them the recievers are going in the coach and I need network tv, we are usually gone 6+ months a year. I have local stations on cab le at home and if one of the satellite recievers comes home for a couple of days, isn't that better than letting sit for six months gathering dirt?

Sue, call MotoSat and ask if there is a software update. I have had to get two of them so far, and I haven't had the unit for a year yet. If you have a Motosat dealer nearby they will install (for a fee) or you can install it yourself, but it's a bit of a hassle if the control box is not easily accessibly (as is mine). I finally installed an "extension" cable on the 15 pin connection that I can plug the (Motosat provided) module into.
Unfortunately, you have to ask if there is an update... Motosat doesn't notify you.

You should call your dealer that sold you the D3/7000 or call Motosat directly. Also visit the forum at www.datastormusers.com (http://www.datastormusers.com) Post a question along with your D3/7000 and the transponder you are on. Lots of dealers will help you resolve your problem(s).

I had the same problem and it turned out to be the main gear that runs the planetary gear. Called the supplier and they sent me an entire new assembly to install. You have to remove the cover in the closet remove 5 slip pins release the cable clamp and undo 3 wire nuts. Do everything in reverse and your ready to go. The hard part is removing the cover with the screws hidden in the carpet. My coach was 8 months out of warranty, but they sent me a rebuilt and I ended up just paying the freight one way. Look for the manual it has the address and installation proceedures.

I have Dish at home as well as in the coach. I only pay $5 more ofor the receiver in the coach. It is just as if I put it in a bedroom at my home. I think you connected to an untrained agent that does not know about the RV waiver forms. Take a look at http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/programming/locals/rv_truck/index. We have had Direct TV in our home for a number of years. Last Fall we purchased a 2002 Intrigue, which had the satellite dish so we decided to put a sat. receiver in the RV. I spoke to Direct TV and they said this was fine and that they would simply charge the $5/month. They also said that I could de-activate that receiver and not pay the monthly charge, but I figured I could afford the $5 whether I used it or not. And, as others have said, I get all the same programming in my RV as I do in my home. We love it!

I have 4 receivers with Dish and 2 are listed 'motorhome' and never had any additional programing charges other than the $5 per receiver charger. They know I travel and have sent replacement units as needed.
I also have east and west coast networks that I can see any where, and my local networks that I can see in about 5 states.
The one thing I've learned with dealing with Dish or DirecTV is if you don't like the answer you're given, hang up and get another person.
Sometimes I have to threaten to go back to DirecTV and suddenly I get what I want. Dish was way easier to obtain networks and locals than I experienced at DirecTV.

Sue, we upgraded to the D3/7000 too.. and that was in November of last year. The process was just completed this last week.
We had to upgard the upper control board..then remove it and replace it with a new control board Rev2.. then replace the motors and wiring harness...then the firmware on the D3.
We can find a satellite.. but.....
Only when using the computer interface.
The buttons on the face of the D3 will work to store, but not to find.
Motosat knows all about the problem and is working on a fix.
It isn't here yet.

I have Direct TV and 2 receivers (one in the house and one in my coach). Per my conversations with Direct TV: I needed to pay the extra $5.00 for the first year to cover the cost of the 2nd receiver (paid nothing for it - would have had to pay $99.95 to DISH for second receiver PLUS additional monthly payments - the reason I switched to Direct TV). Following one year of service (which is already over), I can keep the receiver and stop paying the extra $5.00/month. When I lock up the house to leave, I call Direct TV and switch my service to my other receiver - it is done within a matter of an hour or less. When I drive back into town, I call them again and switch it back - it is always on before I have time to turn on the TV in the house. There is no charge for this switching back and forth. Voila, excellent service and no 'added' monthly charges for something sitting in the storage lot.
