I have been having the same intermittent problem with the exception of having to use the knob in the rear.
I spoke with Thetford support last year and they said that was the first they have heard of the toilet ending the cycle with the blade in the open position. They said I should bring it to one of the Thetford Service Centers. I talked with the Thetford service guy at the Tucson service center and was told that they could do nothing unless they could reproduce the fault. That could take a lot of flushing.
To date it continues appear occasionally. I'm just living with the issue, pressing both buttons when necessary.
When I called Thetford last August, I spoke with Sheila whom documented the issue.

Oh Sue have I got a story for you. My Tetford Aria electrical toilet has a mind of it's own. He is my story. Bought my unit Allure 36 CC30895. First thing to fail was the toilet. Had unit work on and it lasted about 4 months. Tetford replaced the unit. Then it started to have a mind of its own. Tetford has been very cooperative and has given me a ID number to have it worked on. I am not going to work on this unit any futher. When you can not trust the toilet then what can you trust. So I am going to plastic and manual. Simple, reliable, and forget the the fancy buttons that don't work. To me this is clearly as issue that is not worth the money, or effort to fix under warranty, it is (excuse my pun) a shity design, and should be replaced.

That is my opinion of course

Thank you,

Like I posted earlier the Tetford electical is just a bad design. The two button hold down issue does and does not work on my unit. But after holding the blade open with the two button push, my unit will fail and I have to use the manual valve, then after time it srarts working again.
I going manual, so I have to hold a valve open for more water big deal, and I use my foot rather than my fingers. Do you have any better ideas?

Thank you,

I have posted several messages, bottom line, get a manual unit. I have just given up, and no matter what Tetford does, this unit the Aria is just a bad design and it just keeps failing. WE should all get together and work a deal with Tetford for the porcelain manual unit. I am convinced that I have let this become a bigger issue that it should be and for a few hundred dollars I am letting Tetford interrupt my travel. In there years I have never gone three months without a failure.

Thank you,

Re: [Country-Coach-Owners] Thetford "Aria" ToiletI've heard horror stories about these electric toilets and the first time this one goes haywire, a manual one is going in! It is like the electric dump valves on our SOB. They were always giving trouble. The smooth working manual ones on our Allure are so much nicer. Just how hard is it to pull a handle?! The electric dump valves were just one more advertising ploy...just like an electric toilet. And I won't comment on the sound that thing makes when it is flushing! --
