Yep! That's what I said. I've been to Mexico a few times years ago and always said I never lost anything down there I need to go back and find - but. I'm too young to be on medicare - I own my own insurance agency - had a near fatal heart attack and 5 bypasses back in '90 and can't get health insurance at any price. Between my child bride and myself our maintenance meds cost us over $1000.00 a month (would make a good motor coach payment). Canada is too far from N TX where we live and I have heard unsubstantiated stories of people going across the border to "reputable" Mexican pharmacies and buying as much as they want without a script at substantially reduced prices. It would have to be a S TX border town, not boy's town, to make it worth our while with the price of fuel as it is but I would be willing to stock up on 6 - 12 month supply if I was reasonably sure of where I was going and what I was getting.
Don't get me started on our lobyists for the drug and petroleum industries - what our government is doing in my humble opinion is spending billions overseas while totally neglecting GLARING issues in our own back yard (by the way, I did vote for the lesser of the 2 evils last time). I do believe in buying American unless it's obvious that most of my hard earned dollars are making obscene profits for the industries involved.
Agree or disagree - has anyone out there had occasion to have first hand knowledge on the LEGAL prescription drug situation South of the border? i.e. Pharmacy names, phone numbers, web addresses, etc. or good / bad experiences at all.
Best Regards,

While I have not purchased my drugs in Mexico , I have purchased them via the internet.
Planet Drugs Direct
Phone: 1-800-485-1210 (US toll free) Fax: 1-800-858-2895 (US toll free) www.planetdrugsdirect.com (http://www.planetdrugsdirect.com/)
I provided them with a prescription from my doctor, placed the order, it was shipped from New Zealand . I have ordered 3 times from them so far.
My drug of choice is Lipitor 20mg 90 tablets. Cost from a local drug dealer (pharmacy) was about 3 times as much from my new Canadian drug dealer J.

Thanks for the response Bill & Judy - we'll be sure to check it out - sure won't have a problem getting a script from our Dr.

Bo,
Have not bought from Mexico, but also have ordered from Canada, however, my last prescription has not been refilled due to no availability. With the other prescription, they do not carry it. Right now am looking at Prudent Choice for medical help. My current ins. premium is $500 mo. with no prescription rider. Had the rider-cost $2400 a year and the maximum benefit was $2000 a year. Dropped it. Now I am sic months from Medicare.

We used Progreso crossing west of Brownsville to enter Mexico on two days. We parked in electric gated RV park maybe 3 miles from border.
We toaded to a nice lot at border bridge. We walked to Mexico, price shopped 6 pharmacies, purchased & walked to USA. 3 times.
We noticed the pharmacies seem to share staff & beggars as if all were one business, not 6 separate businesses. Do the stores get part of beggars take? Visa was welcome payment method.
Close to shift end, the US guards didn't care about amounts of drugs or collecting liquor taxes.
Costs were about 1/3. We bought some antibiotics for $3 that work for sinus infection. Normal cost is $100 for Doctor + $40 for latest antibiotic + $100 for doctor + $17 for old reliable antibiotic. That amounts to $254 & 10 days suffering saved.
Pharmacy people were interested in our scripts only to verify name of drug & dosage.
1/10 mile farther into Mexico, it appeared to have been wrecked in 1930, never rebuilt.
Locals said we could have saved much more just 20 miles farther into Mexico. We did not go & do not expect to go farther into Mexico.
This fall we may shop Mexico again, crossing at both Brownsville & Hidalgo. If so we will take only clothes, $50 cash & 2 credit cards.
Monitor your card bills after using card in Mexico!
