I am thinking about possibly building an RV storage building and small shop area say 50' by 20'. However I have no idea as to where to go to get some ideas and or plans and have no guess as to possible cost range. It is my understanding that I should have a door that is 16' wide and 16' high. Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.

Charles,

We just finished building our RV garage that is 55' deep and 62' wide with 3 - 14' x 14' doors. We love it as well as the toys do too. If you have any questions feel free to contact me directly by email. The 14 x 14 doors work great for us and the coach. You could go wider but you don't need to go higher. Anything taller than 14' will have trouble fitting under some freeway overpasses. Also it means alot more $$$ to build since your walls will be 18' instead of 16'.

Good luck in your project.

Charles:

Here are a couple of websites you may get ideas for your barn on:
http://www.archwaypress.com/browse.php/ca311db0033aba7c5f6563c8c7253920.html?gac=apoverture (http://www.archwaypress.com/browse.php/ca311db0033aba7c5f6563c8c7253920.html?gac=apoverture) http://www.behmdesign.com/index.html (http://www.behmdesign.com/index.html)
I used these plans for ideas when I designed my garage. Have fun with it. A 14' x 14' garage door is the ideal size to get your coach in an out. I wouldn't go any smaller than 12'w x 14' h though.

We built a 50' x 40' steel building last year. "Red iron" with steel panels (15' eave height) and roof, 2-14' x14' doors and a man door. It is big enough for our coach, boat, 2 cars, tractor, lawn mower and the four wheeler. It's great, the coach, as well as other items stay clean (no more black streaks!) and are protected from the elements. We had foil/plastic insulation installed. We wish we would have had the spray on foam insulation instead.
The only problem with insulating the building is during a very moist time we had a lot of condensation inside, everything sweated. Next year we will put in some fans and possibly dehumidifiers. Our building with the slab cost a little over $43k.
You could look in the phone book under steel fabricators. They should be able to help with plans as well as permits and constuction.
If you have any quesions feel free to contact me via e-mail.
Good luck.
