For those with an Intec CVM550 monitor, here is an update on installing a side-mounted camera.
I have completed discussions with Intec, and here is what it takes:
First, the monitor has to be returned to the factory to upgrade it to the multi-camera model (from a CVM550 to a CVM553). This costs $150.
You then have to buy the camera. There are two options: A flush mount (similiar to the back-up camera, but with a wider field of view and adjustable angle). This costs $270, and the cable to connect it costs $50. The second option is a chrome finish camera that mounts on the Ramco mirror. That runs $650, plus $30 for an adapter cable.
I elected to go with the flush mount, which I am mounting on the passanger side, slightly above the right headlight. I have to drill a hole in the side of the coach, and will remove the headlight to gain access to that area.
My total cost, not including taxes and shipping, is $470. I think it is worth it to remove a blind spot and have visibility to that side of the coach. A driver's side camera, in my opinion, is less necessary as I can see everything on my side of the coach.
My final comment is that Intec is very friendly and helpful and easy to deal with (Intecvideo.com).
