Just as a matter of additional information I am using a GPS from Alpine. I have been using them for about 5 years now. My first unit was a replacement radio with a screen that shot out then bent 90 degrees for use. My current unit is a dash mounted touch screen. It is touch, voice, and remote control driven. I find it to be very accurate and easy to use. The biggest down side is that it is extremely expensive compared to the portables but it has a bigger brighter screen quite readable in direct sunlight.
I had them install my screen on the swivel tray next to the dash console. That way my wife can set it up then swing it over to me to use while I am driving. I use the voice control to zoom in and out as needed. While the built-in in my 2008 Jeep Wrangler may have a feature or two this doesn't I find the Alpine to be more reliable and easier to read.
