Our 06 Allure came with the Sharp 37 inch Aquos LCD HD TV. The coach is now 15 months old and we are finally able to get a watchable picture on it. There had been a problem with the feed to the TV and after three tries Buddy Gregg finally got that straightened out and now we have a great picture, however we can only get channels up to channel 27 when hooked up to cable. We don't have satellite. The rear TV, a Panasonic flat screen non LCD works perfectly and gets all the cable channels where ever we are. We go thru the channel search and set up at each stop. The channel search takes about 15 minutes going thru the analog, digital (air), and digital (cable) before it stops. The first step in this process is to choose the one of the three CATV systems (Standard (which Ron Foster at CC says is the one to use), HRC, or IRC. We usually choose standard since we don't know what the cable system is and Ron says that 99% of the time is is Standard. We then go thru the channel search for 10-15 minutes. Each time we get only up to channel 27 on the high dollar super crap Sharp Aquos and nothing else, but on the cheap Panasonic in the bedroom we get all the channels. I've fought this stupid TV for over a year to get a watchable picture and now can only get a few of the channels. This has something to do with set up of the TV because I ran into a guy at Tiger Run a couple months ago who had the same problem with the exact same TV. Has anyone had this problem or know any solution. I apologize for posting a trivial problem like a TV when others like Doris have big time problems. I have talked to the people at CC twice in the last three months and they said they would research it and call me back. Of course they never did. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I was in Tiger Run a couple of months ago, and have a 2006 36' Allure 470. I have not had any problems, but I did notice that the rear unit did get all of the cable channels and the front did not seem to. The Sat. was so good I just passed on the issue. I you get a fix please let me know, and I will do the same.

Sorry to hear about your problem. I purchased a 32" Sharp Aquos LCD a couple of years ago. I did something that I usually don't do....I bought an extended warranty. Normally I figure that the warranty is just extra profit margin for the retailer. I have had two problems with the set, one within the warranty period and the last one was out side of the normal one-year warranty.
I think that they have a problem with the "internals" on this set.
The 32 and 37 are basically the same set, but with different lcd panels. This last time the repair shop tried to replace the one failing module, they found out that it was not compatible with the new one sent to him. Soooo, he had to order all new components and he even had to have those comonents updated with new software. He billed the extended warranty company $850.00 which they agreed was normal for this type of failure. I got lucky on this one!!
I would recommend that you immediately call Sharp and get them to give you a local "Sharp Authorized Service Shop". Then go there with documentation showing that you had problems while the unit was within the normal warranty period. Since there have been problems with these units, they should provide you free service even though it's now out of warranty. Mine now works great and I have a super picture on all channels.
Good Luck,

What's the model number on your Aquos? It sounds like there must be some kind of a setting that is forcing the TV to only display signals it deems "HD"... and that might be what's stopping you from seeing the rest of the channels, since most signals being broadcast today are NOT HD.
If you post the model number, I'd be happy to take a look and see if I can find anything online in the owner's manual that might be a potential issue. I'm a bit of a techno-geek and love trying to troubleshoot these kinds of issues.
Sorry you're having such trouble.

Denny, thanks for the response. I really think the TV is o.k., since there are a number of people with the same problem. It could be we have problem TV's, but I really believe it has something to do with the channel search. I didn't think that Sharp would talk to me since it is out of warranty, and customer service is a thing of the past, but I will try calling them.

Well... without having your TV here to "get my hands on", I downloaded the owner's manual from the Sharp web site and took a look. Based on my review of it, here's what I've come up with so far. I hope you're in a spot where you can test these ideas out:
(1) If you can access the back of the TV, make sure that the coaxial cable is connected to the "Ant/Cable Analog" input.
(2) On your coach's A/V source selector box, select "Cable" for the Sharp LCD TV (front TV, I assume).
(3) Configure the TV for the proper signal source. When the TV is first powered up (after 110V has been off for a while), the TV should go into "Initial Setup" mode (otherwise, use the "Menu" button on the remote and select "EZ Setup" from the "Setup" menu). Using the up/down/left/right buttons on the remote control, select the "Air/Cable" option and make sure it's set to "Cable" (if you want to use the roof antenna instead, select "Air"). Then scroll down to the "CH Search" option and make sure that the appropriate options are selected (if unsure, turn them all to "Yes", although all you really need is the "Analog").
Once programming is done, use the "Cable" button on the remote and then select the channels (if that doesn't work, try the "Air" button on the remote and retry selecting a channel).
Sharp seems to be using "normal" terminology in confusing ways. On the remote, when they refer to "Air", they really mean "Analog" signals, which includes what most of us are used to with typical cable systems, as well as over-the-air broadcasting from the major networks. When they refer to "Cable", they mean DIGITAL cable... the kind that requires a special box to receive the signal from the cable provider.
Let me know if this helps at all... and if not, what happens and I'll continue researching (unless Dale & Candace get a response from CC directly).

John, I may be able to give it a shot this afternoon, if not I will try tomorrow, I can run a cable co axle from my home out to the coach. Getting to the back of the TV to get to the switch may be a problem though. I'll try the other stuff first and if none of that works figure out how to get to the rear of the TV. Obviously you have spent a lot of time on this, you can't imagine how much I appreciate it.

Before our trip to Michigan I took out the old non digital big box TV in the bedroom and replaced it with a nicer digital LCD. It works great, but then I noticed that it receives many, many more TV channels while hooked up to cable (maybe 4 to 1) than my up front Sharp Aquos HD LCD Model No. LC-37-D5U manufactured in 2005. Using the antennae on top of the coach ( I don't have satellite) I get plenty of channels on the new bedroom set and only a couple of very poor channels on the Aquos, which tells me this has something to do with the new digital only broadcast I poured over 96 pages of the Sharp book, but haven't figured it out. Any one have any ideas other than doing the Elvis number on it?

You will find three coax inputs on the back of the TV.
One for digital cable.
One for analog antenna which you probably have connected.
One for digital antena which should be connected but probably is not.
Check it out, it may solve the problem.

Bob & R D,
R D's 2005 Sharp does not have a digital tuner in it. The FCC did not require TV manufacturers to include the digital tuner until March 2007. What R D needs to do is to purchase a external digital tuner to connect to his front 2005 Sharp TV. By the way R D, when you move your coach to another location, when you hook up to cable, you need to go into the set up menu and tell the TV to search for available cable channels. Will need to do the same if you hook up a digital tuner to it. No plug and play for that big boy. We have its 30 inch smaller sister.

Chuck, I can't find anything in the manual about the tuner. On page 96 it list the specs, but nothing about the tuner. It does say under TV FUNCTION that it is a TV-Standard (CCIR) and next to that American TV Standard ATSC/NTSC whatever that means. It also says in the manual that it has a cable card slot feature allowing you to plug and play without a separate cable set box. I know there has to be others out there with the same TV. My coach is a 2006 that I bought in July 2005 so the TV is probably a 2005, but not necessarily. I would appreciate hearing form anyone who has this TV in a 2004. 2005, or 2006, as to how theirs works. Keep in mind that while hooked up to cable I get quite a few channels, but not near as many as the new HD LCD I just bought for the bedroom and that while using the antennae, I get only a couple of channels. Thanks.

Just FYI by Federal regulation there is a build date somewhere on your TV expressed in plain English - no codes are allowed unless very obvious such as 5/05 - if you can see it installed. Hi R D,
Look in your manual to see if there is a chapter on "watching TV with a digital tuner". It should tell you if your TV has a digital tuner in it or you need to attach a external one. Also review how to go into the TV menu and access "set up", and then CH set up. There is where you have the TV search for available channels on either antenna or cable. You need to perform the set up every time you change locations.

Chuck, I have done the channel search probably hundreds of times, so I am very familiar with that process. The manual doesn't have any info on "watching TV with a digital tuner", but there are several references to things like Antenna Set-Digital-Air, which says that in order to receive digital air broadcast, you need a digital antenna, but no mention of digital tuner. It gives instructions on confirming the configuration through "Antenna Setup- Digital, which I am going to go out and try now. There is also a "Troubleshooting Digital Broadcast" appendix that shows error codes, which I am also going to check. Lastly, I have e-mailed Sharp with my serial number to see if I have a digital tuner. I'm not holding my breath waiting on a response from them, but I may get lucky, who knows. Anyone wanting offer anything is sure welcome. Thanks

My coach was originally purchased in Nov., 2005 (2006 Allure) with a LC-37DSU Sharp Aquos. It has a digital tuner. It also has a bad power supply which is now being repaired by a Sharp authorized repair center. I believe the cause was heat. I have 2 fans on the bottom rear panel. They originally sucked air into the rear bottom of the tv chamber and out the top. The problem is there is no where for the air to go out the top. I turned one fan around. That way one blows air in and one sucks it out. Now that the tv is out for repair I'm going to drill holes in the side cabinet panels to allow air to escape and reverse the fan so that they both blow air in again. I am disappointed that the CC design dept. takes priority over engineering when it comes to how the interior is designed. There are several things that don't make a lot of sense on this coach. The tv air flow is one of them. Another is the outlets being on the bottom of the cabinets instead of on the walls. Another is the inverter having to have a fan to keep it cool because it was placed on a wall that has the engine muffler on the other side. -------but I digress!!!!!!!

Hi R D,
We have a old crank up batwing antenna on our coach. It has the 12 VDC amp in the antenna head. With the amp turned on, at our current location, we are able to pick up 18 digital stations in the area of Salem and Portland, Or. When I turn off the 12 VDC amp, I get zero channels. Thats the best I can do for you at this time.

I seem to remember in one of your earlier posts you said your tv had an ATSC/NTSC tuner. The ATSC tuner is your digital tuner. For a little more clarification on this subject, I have provided a link below.

First let me thank John, a non CC owner (at this time anyway) , for all the time he spent researching and putting together a step by step check check system to try to solve the problem of not getting all the channels on the Aquos. I have solved my problem and believe it will remedy the rest of you who have similar problems. If not, go through the steps John recommended, and hopefully you will find the glitch.
I figured that it had to be something in the initial set up and that is where I started. If you have your manual on the Sharp, go to page 31, to CHANGING SYSTEM SETTINGS. If you have a different book for some reason, find the section on CHANGING THE SYSTEM SETTINGS. If you don't have the book this is a condensed version of what it says.
1. Press the TV GUIDE button on the remote, then press MENU. In the EPISODE OPTION SECTION, toggle up or down to where it says GO TO SERVICE BAR. Press enter. Then press the sideways buttons to get to SET UP. Next press the up/down button to get to CHANGE SYSTEM SETTINGS. Press enter to display CONFIRMING YOUR SETTINGS. You are now getting close to where you need to be. It will show your zip code, etc, but the important part is the box just below that says, ARE THE ABOVE SETTING CORRECT? Toggle down button to say NO, REPEAT SETUP PROCESS, then push enter. This will take you to CONFIGURING FOR CABLE. You are now where the problem probably is. It will have a question, DO YOU HAVE CABLE SERVICE CONNECTED TO THIS TV. Mine was reprogrammed NO. CHANGE THIS TO YES and you should be home free. I think this will solve all the problems we have been having. Remember though that you will need to do a channel search at each different stop on your journey, but thanks to John, this is much easier now. When you screen comes up while doing this and ask you whether you want to search ANALOG, DIGITAL (air), or DIGITAL (cable), do the search only on ANALOG only. This will save you 15-20 minutes and you still get all the channels. John was right when he said "Sharp seems to use "normal" terminology in confusing ways. Boy is that ever a true statement. Don't worry about the ZIP CODE, because the way I understand it, this only has to do with the program listings for whatever area you are in, To me this is too much trouble and I don't use it any way. I'm a man, we just flip through 200 channels until we find what we want.
Good luck folks.
