I've watched with interest reports of serious problems with the Cat engine in CC Inspires. I can imagine no problem more serious than stalling on the RR tracks on leaving Camp CC in JC. Anyone who has been there know how fast those trains go through there.
Although Cat has a fine reputation over the years, it would seem they have a serious problem they are not addressing promptly. I believe Cummins is an option in the Inspire, and if I was to buy one I would definitely opt for Cummins. I haven't seen any complaints with Cummins in Inspires, so must assume they are having no overheating problems.
I don't own any Cummins stock---just reflectng on ten years experience with their engines.

The early C9's were problematic, we have one of the first half dozen Inspires built with the C9 (03/04) and it was hell for a long time but now our Cat purrs. We also had episodes of failure to move but have not had that problem or any of the other problems since all the upgrades were installed. As these engines are 100% electronically controlled there were problems with the programming and interface with other equipment. Every CAT ACERT engine owner should make absolutely sure they have the latest ECM flash file which should be a free install paid for by Cat. Don't trust that a Cat dealer says you have the latest software, many don't want to be bothered with such a small job. There were also problems with early HEUI pumps; ours was replaced very early on.
There is a Cat RV engine owners club that is also an FMCA chapter and they have a Yahoo group similar to this one. If you own a Cat diesel engine I recommend joining as the latest, usually very accurate, information is readily available there.
It's a shame you can't rely on the Cat dealer networrk yet but the fact is many don't have a clue about RV's and some actually refuse to service RVs. Part of the reason is the low esteem many truckers have for RV owners/drivers and truck work is their bread and butter.
This will change as Caterpillar is apparently very serious about being a player in the RV market

Hi:
I have a 2003, Intrigue, 1st Avenue. It has a Cummins 400 HP Diesel in it. The engine has been absolutely trouble free. I ordered one in my 2007 which will be delivered soon.

Bob,
Ditto...I also have the ISL 400 and have had zero engine related problems. The only issue in five years was a dirty fuel filter two years ago which was my fault. Since then, I can't even get an engine error code logged on the Silverleaf.

Gee Walt I agree again. I have a theory on these issues, I will send it to you later, outside the group.
