Just purchased an '04 Inspire 40' Da Vinci and I'm thinking about buying an extended warranty. I've read the pros and cons on other forums but thought I'd open this thread here.
I can buy a four year, 48,000 mile warranty that covers virtually everything (except bulbs, tires and windshield wipers) at a cost of $5,432. There is a $200 deductible per item.
Opinions please.......

Well my input is simply this, there is a commission in the $5432.00 and yet they all make money, so how does this work? Mostly by exception. Extended warranties are the biggest source of profit for all retailers and automotive dealers. When my Hummer warranty was up I was hounded for weeks to extend the policy, why because they make so much money.

Being a x-dealer from the Harley Davidson community we sold warranties and the cost was half of the retail. I would think that based on my knowledge of the RV industry that on the $5432 sale price that probably $2500 or LESS is cost.

Here is something to consider when buying a plan. We bought a plan through Good Sam when we bought our coach. I figured it would be peace of mind if I needed a new transmission in the middle of nowhere. We were in St John when the ride height control went out. It was on as Saturday. The shop that would see us said they would repair it, but would not sit on hold on the phone waiting for approval. It was OK for me to do it, so I sat on hold for a long time. Finally I got a recording! I told them I would cover the cost and try to recover it from the insurance company. I did not. I will not buy another plan.

Extended service plans or extended warranties unless issued by the product manufacturer are one of the biggest ripoffs and gross profit generators there are. Beware, rarely do they work as advertised.
