Title: Coach Vibration in a 2007 Magna

Travelling X country from the factory( where we took delivery) and now traveling from our home in Florida to the Jekyll Island Rally I have noticed a chassis viration and all hwy speeds. I had Equal installed in all 8 tires thinking that a tire was out of balance but I did that in Houston and the problem still exists. You can not feel it in the steering wheel as much as you can in your feet and butt. It's like a harmonic that continually comes and goes on about a 10 sec cycle.
Could one of the tires be out of round? Could it be in the drive train? Has anyone had a similar experience? The tires are goodyear.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

jbennett,

I'm currently at the factory having work done. A vibration in my Intrigue was one of the problems I am experiencing. The tech says they have another coach here with the same problem and they haven't been able to find the problem. I have to leave today, so they're going let me know what tghe fix is when they figure it out. My vibration is different from yours in that it only shows up between 40 and 50 MPH when the coach is under power. I don't think mine is a tire problem, I think it's somewhere in the drivetrain. As you know, everybody here is leaving Tuesday for Georgia for the pre rally and the FMCA show so hopefully someone there can fix your vibration. When I find out what the fix is for mine, I'll post it here.

Hi Bennet;

We have an '07 magna that we took delivery of in November. It had a similar vibration but ours ended up being a right front tire that had to be replaced. Good luck with your new coach and the trip back to Florida.

Jbennett, Just curious.

You didn't mention your Intrigue year or drive train. If your coach has same engine and drive train as the owner of the 2007 Magna maybe there is a common issue. Otherwise the vibration may be caused by a completley different problem.

Have them check ride height while at the Rally. Too high or too low will cause exactly the condition you mention. The angle of the drive shaft will vibrate and in time cost lots of bucks.

We had a similar problem--a harmonic torsional vibration which occurred at about 50 mph and 1400 rpm under light load. Vibration could be felt through the steering wheel and accelerator, and especially in the hallway over the rear axle. The culprit was ride height which controls drive shaft angle. Our problem was eliminated by lowering the rear air bags which, in turn, decreased the drive shaft angle. The noise was coming from the binding of the U-joints because the drive shaft was at too steep an angle.

Similar symptoms are found in the situation where the 'clocking' of the driveshaft is off a tooth or more when the two halves are put back together. This can occur immediately after the driveshaft has been removed and then reinstalled after the coach is towed. It's possible that the first-time installation of the driveshaft can get this incorrect too.

I have Goodyear tires also with a vibration problem at about 55 mph and up. Went to a Goodyear tire dealer removed tires check for run out, found tires out of round. Goodyear is replacing the bad ones.

I had the same seat of the pants vibe with the old Toyos. Finally found one out of round.

I have since changed to Goodyear and now have the same thing so I suspect another out of round tire. Bad thing is, you have to spin them up to freeway speeds to find out which one it is. Not a lot of shops have the equipment to do that. A tire can be in complete balance, go out of round and still be in balance.
