Title: Roads to avoid...duh...
Post by: David Cole on March 31, 2007, 02:20:05 pm
Yahoo Message Number: 30044 (http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Country-Coach-Owners/conversations/messages/30044)We just returned from the West Coast and visiting Zion (among other places) On the return, we came from Kanab, Ut to Gallup, NM. The GPS said it was shorter to take US89 to US 160 and Az 264 through the Hopi and Navaho Reservations to Gallup. Bad decision. Lot's of really wavy, narrow roads. Beat the coach and toad a lot. At one point, I actually saw the toad in the driver's side rear mirror as the washboard road caused the toad to drift to the left. Not a pleasant ride. Throw in some snow and wind to make it worse... Next time...Us 89 to IH-40. Longer, but much much easier on the butt and kidneys... :-)
Drive safe. Have fun. Will see the Texans in Kerrville in a bit.

We are heading to Page, AZ and Lake Powell this summer. We did Zion and Bryce last summer. My question is, how is US 89 from Kanab down to the intersection of US 89 & US 160? Is that a good road?
We will then head up US 160 to US 191 and then to Moab.
Just wondered what US 89 is like in that area.
Thanks,

Yahoo Message Number: 30051 (http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Country-Coach-Owners/conversations/messages/30051)Hi Group, Today we fueled up at the 24/7 Travel Plaza, 8200 East Brundage Avenue, Bakersfield, CA. It is on the north side of highway 58, only about one block but not easy to see from the freeway. Easy pump access built for trucks but they seem happy to see motor homes. Best part is the price, $2.899 per gallon (cash or ATM). This was a lot lower then what we have seen recently in southern CA., and even the Flying J north of Bakersfield was asking $2.95.
We paid $2.67 per gallon in Winslow, Az this morning. Next fill-up will be Kingman (Flying J) on Tuesday. We used Flying J &/or Wal-Mart exclusively with $0.03 off at Wal-Mart & $0.06 off at Flying J.. It's about the best, on average.... Staying at Brand-X Place in Vegas. Nobody @ CCI will acknowledge that Gypsy Place. butt it is close to the Champcar Race Course. I can ride by Bike to work next weekend..... Lee&Kris CAsebeer , currently at Grand Canyon Village Met a Bloke who is taking a 38 ft. Monaco back to Britian with him.. Interesting ! ! ! !

Yahoo Message Number: 30064 (http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Country-Coach-Owners/conversations/messages/30064)89 and 160 were fine. The problems started when I turned off US160 in Tuba City. Be afraid...verrrry afraid... ;-)

Yahoo Message Number: 30070 (http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Country-Coach-Owners/conversations/messages/30070)Any suggestions from Kanab up to SLC? Got my granddaughter with us for spring break headed back to Seattle and want to show her either Zion or Grand Canyon parks.
Thx, Mike

Yahoo Message Number: 30071 (http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Country-Coach-Owners/conversations/messages/30071)They are both worth seeing. If you go to Zion stay in Virign at the Zion River Resort. Its a great park.
You could go northwest from Kanab to Rt 9, and into Zion NP. We've driven through in this direction (mostly downhill) a couple of times with our 36 footer, towing a Tahoe, and were with another couple in a 40' Intrigue, towing a Grand Cherokee, without a problem. You have to pay to be escorted through the tunnel (have to drive down the middle of the road) but that's no big deal.
The RV park previously mentioned in Virgin is a beauty. We didn't get to stay there, but said if we ever got back we would.
After Zion NP, you can go north on I-15 to Salt Lake City. The KOA at 1400 West North Temple is a good base to do things from in SLC. Easy access from I-80 or I-215. Tell Vickie, we sent you. We were there in January, and are now in Century RV Park, I-15, exit 343, at Ogden. Tell Gayle, we sent you.

Yahoo Message Number: 30078 (http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Country-Coach-Owners/conversations/messages/30078)We've stayed there many times since our favorite RV repair service is just down the road in Sunset, Ut. We're to get new carpet in the Rv tomorrow and have reservations at Century for a few more days to finish up add-ons to the coach and to put back all we had to remove to do carpet. We're scheduled for space 60, and should be in tomorrow night. Stop by and say hello.

My daughter and family just moved over from Seattle to Chelan last December. Love to go over and visit them now.
Thx for the advice. Mike
