I have just received my renewal for insurance. I'm with Progressive and have never made a claim. My premium has gone up 15%.
Is everyone experiencing these sorts of increases? I also have our toad with Progressive and it has gone down 20%.

Progressive is now rating us by the following items

1. The amount of credit applications we submitted in a year. If you are refinancing this could be a problem.
2. When you first secured credit, in our case we established credit in 1959 but their computer records only go back to 1970. We had to straighten that out.
3. They also do not like it when you have a lot of credit cards and play the mile game.
4. They do not use you credit score or driving record unless it is really bad.

We went from tier 3 to tier 6 in one year, call them and ask what tier you are in. In our case we were refinancing the coach and made several applications for a good rate. They picked this up and increased our premium by $800. After talking with them they took us back to tier 2 and gave us a $500 refund for last year and reduced this years premium by $800. They claim all of this was in a letter last year which I did not read, so talk with the main office.
We are in the process of closing all unnecessary credit accounts. AllState is also using this same rating system and combining it with your driving record for cars, But they only check credit when you apply for a new policy.
Good luck, you will learn a lot about the new world of insurance when you call them up. I had to also educate Lazy Days on this credit issue.

1/ I have 1 credit card. Had it for 10 years. No new applications. Paid cash for the CC.
2/ First credit back in the 60's.
3/ Only one card.

4/ I don't have a US driving license. That condition only applied for the first 3 years. I'm now well past that.
I know I'm in a unique situation but my premium was going down. Now a sudden just up.

I'm in PA and we switched several years ago to ERIE INSURANCE. Now all of my cars and home are with them too which provides and extra discount. We have an agreed upon value for our Prevost of $250,000 and the cost which I just was billed for effect November is $705. This includes Liability $250M/$500M/Acc; Liability Property Damage $100M/ACC; $20M 1st Party Medical; Uninsured Motorists Bodily Inj $250M/person $500M/Acc Stacked; Underinsured Motorists Bod Inj $$250M $500m; Physical Damage Comprehensive $1M deductible. AND in Oct '08 I had about $12M damage I did to the bus which was forgiven and not chargable due to our continued use and non-claims to Erie.
We are not full-timers, so that saves much money. And I have taken the AARP Safe Driver Course which also saved many dollars. Yes, I know they do look at credit scores.

I know they cover other states in the area.
