I often read an insurance company's ads about RV insurance. I will just offer a side thought to this discussion.
We insure everything through the California State Automobile Association Inter-Insurance Bureau. Of course, we have to be in its service area to use the service. We have two automobiles, a Country Coach, and a primary and secondary residence insured through CSAAIIB. The beauty is, we also have a low-cost $1M umbrella policy, providing we keep the $500K, etc. limits required to activate the umbrella policy. I suspect (although I have not looked) that the price for these policies is higher than some competitive bids might be. OTOH, we have never had a claim denied under any of these policies, we have had fast and fair service, and we believe that we are covered by the most agreeable of insurance companies.
All I mean to say is that, given the level of service I have received, I would not for a moment consider moving to the blue-trimmed, white dress, white girl with really red lipstick (cute as she is), or to the sincere black man (sincere as he is) holding out his hands in welcome.

In other words, it is service that counts.

Ken

I am like you, Ken.

I use Southern California AAA also and I have always been satisfied with their fair handling of my needs. Price is low for the coverage I enjoy on CC, two cars & home.
I check prices occasionally to keep them honest but, I have not yet found a competitive substitute.
BTW, just something for all to consider. I discovered that I could reduce my comprehensive deductible to $100 on all my vehicles for a very small upcharge. That feature has paid for itself in multiples. Call your insurer. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Update. -

I have been in contact with Progressive. Seems they have had me down for an agreed value of about twice the market value. (My paper work, and understanding, is that I have market value coverage. Their paper work agrees but some how their computer had an agreed value in it. Go figure). Now to debate on market value!! No thanks I'll worry about that if and when the question arises.
They have adjusted my premium to less than 50% of the original quote. Same coverage but with market value instead. Yeah I know I'm paying more than most folks, even now, but without a US drivers license there is little I can do about it. (I had a Texas license but due to rule changes they now need a SSN and non residents can't get a SSN). So I pay a surcharge for the fact that I'm on your US roads terrorising you folks! Been doing it for almost 20 years now without an incident. Touch wood!
Thanks for the comments. It's interesting to see all the varying options, opinions and premiums.

Thanks.

I know this question probably has been asked before but here goes. I have gotten 3 quotes for insurance coverage for our coach and toad. National Interstate the highest, Blue Sky RV lowest and GMAC in the middle. Does anyone have suggestions. I have never heard of Blue Sky RV, but they may be alright. Thanks

We have National Interstate Insurance. (we are full timers and they have full timers insurance). They also insure our toad. I can't vouch for the cheapest but they are cheaper than the other company we had.

Hi Gerry,

Progressive will insure for an agreed value. Normally the price you paid for the coach, I have carried that since I bought my coach. I assume that is the local coach we talked about earlier.

Gerry,

I agree with Lonnie. I have had National Interstate since 2005. Price seem to be competitive and it also includes CoachNet. We are also full timers since 2006.

Looking at insurance companies today. Has anyone done or doing business with FMCA's motorhome and Auto insurance plan (National General). Please chime in. Appreciate your input.

Lonny,

In order to use Coach Net must you first call National Interstate and then they contact Coach Net or can you call Coach Net and just tell them you are a National Interstate customer. I too use National Interstate but I have also been paying Coach Net for my towing service so maybe I am paying twice for same service.

Haven't really looked around lately. Might not be as expensive as other companies, but I wouldn't call it cheap either. Even with the same company, rates can vary depending on where you live and what coverage you have. I agree that National Interstate gives the best coverage for full timers for the least money.

I have had National Interstate since 2005. I have been happy with them. Only raised price once. I like that they offer CoachNet. I have used them twice. Once with a tow and once when I could not locate a repair shop. They responded within 15 minutes with a very good shop that was able to make my repair. I now have zero deductible and replacement cost for what I paid for the coach if it is totaled. Hard to change and start all over.

We had all property, vehicles and liability coverage with Farm Bureau. The incremental cost, $500 deductible, for a 2007 Allure was less than $400 annually. This included the full replacement feature, they seemed quite happy when the three years expired for that commitment.

Our coach is insured by National Interstate, we no longer have the replacement policy so the premium is a lot less than when that was included. Cost this year is $1115., $375 deductible on collision. I checked around last year and found the other major carriers was very similar in price to National Interstate for same coverage. I have never heard of High Sage Brokers or Allied Insurance. There are some reviews online that don't look great for Allied: http://www.viewpoints.com/Allied-Insurance-reviews

We switched to Allied through Good Sam a year ago - they offered much better rates than Progressive. We have not had any ocasion to file a claim with them but others on forum affirmed that Allied was a good choice and with Good Sam approval I think that's a reasonable comfort zone to be in.
