Who uses what for the rubber gaskets around the slide outs? I've read "baby powder" or lubricant made especially for the rubber. We've always used the lubricant on other diesel.
Does CC recommend a specific product?

I've used silicone and have switched to baby powder, it seems to last longer.

CC magazine says baby powder and nothing that contains petroleum distillates.

Some "experts" say baby powder that contains talc is carcinogenic.
Other "experts" say not so.
Regardless, corn starch is the same thing as baby powder without the talc and perfume, and much cheaper.
Never use WD40 because it will cause the slideout seals to swell.

When I wrote my maintenance article for Destinations, I wrote that the good options are baby powder ( talc.. just don't breathe it in... not good,) or 303 or silicone. There was a big discussion on the board about 303... but I have found it very useful and a good sunscreen for tires when the coach is not being driven. 303 is very popular. It is even recommended for use on the roof. ( there also was a big discussion about how to apply it...) Everything I wrote was checked out by technical experts at CC and was approved or it would not have gone in Destinations.
Take your pick!

Read the side of the can, if it says "petroleum distillates" under contents it can accelerate deterioriation. Same goes for any tire preparations. Unfortunately, many RV products are designed to primarily separate us from our money. Not all, but too many IMHO with 32 years of RVing experience.
I've put nothing on our seals and will not unless the noisy squeaking bothers the wife abd then it will be talc powder.
The recommendation to use talc has been made at least twice in the CC publication Destinations. The commercial magazines support their advertisers, the ones who really for the publication, so I trust CC first.
If you don't receive Destinations - there is usualy some good info among the relatively mild propaganda - it's their mag after all - just ask and they wull send it free to anyone who askes, CC owner or not.

If I cannot find pure talc, I use regular baby powder (without corn starch). Any generic brand does just fine. I put it in an old sock or some kind of a cloth bag and dust the seals. Talc is still used to preserve rubber life rafts that are stowed on aircraft.
