Going to Baja, Mexico in Nov for Baja 1000,wondering about insurance for coach. Any info on obtaining liability and/or collsion, are both needed, or does US policy cover anything. Will be there for 7 days only, and coach will be in Ensenada at a RV park for the 7 days. Any info would be appreciated.

Ray,

Most "standard" US insurance doesn't provide all of the coverage you need for Mexico... forget which part they sometimes include (liability/collision/comprehensive)... but whatever they DO give you, it's not enough.
We had very good luck getting good, and cheap, insurance for our trip to Mexico 2 years ago by joining a group called Vagabundos Del Mar. You can check them out here:

Cheap to join... it saves you a fair amount on insurance... and they have very helpful and knowledgeable staff who can answer any/all of your questions.
I have no affiliation with them other than that I belonged for a year to get insurance (and help) for my last trip south of the border.

Good luck... and have fun!

Ray, we travel Mexico every winter. Our US ins carrier, Progressive provides coverage on our MH and tow car for collision and comp. Mexican liability has to be purchased separately from a mexican liability carrier. It is quite inexpensive but you can't travel without it. You buy it for any length of time you wish. One good source is Beth Shipman who works out of an office in Gunnison, CO. VistaRVinsurance.com and her number is 866 270 5297. Hope this helps.

Hi there,

Most U.S. insurance companies will not cover you in Mexico. Progressive will and the new company offered by FMCA will PROVIDED, you have a Mexican Liability Policy in effect.
You can buy Liability insurance by the day or in 6 or 12 month policies. I have an annual policy on my coach, costing $188/year. I also have Progressive, so there fore I have the same coverage in Mexico as I have at home.
Driving the Baja is interesting at best. The roads are narrow and mostly have no shoulder.
Watch you left hand mirror, and watch your wheels leaving the road and getting caught in the sand.
