I will be traveling to the Temecula, CA. area on monday 10/22/2007 from the SF bay area. Has any one traveled through the I-5 Santa Clartia area where a fire had closed the freeway? Some reports say it closed and some say it's open.

I am considering going over to US-395 from Bakersfield and then connecting with I-15.

Anyones current knowledge of the situation would be welcome.

Jocko,

On the news they are stated all is open except the tunnel. You will be with the normal traffic and all who would have used the truck tunnel will remain where the cars are. I haven't had to drive through there since I live in Temecula. I would just try to time it so you don't hit there at heavy commute hours or you will need a serious cocktails. I would suggest taking the 210 east just after the tunnel all the way to the 15 south for ease of the drive if you aren't to familiar with the area. It is farther miles but better on time and easier on the transmission due to actual moving traffic usually.....

Have a safe drive and enjoy your visit in Temecula.

Kathy -

I survive the trip from Northern California south to San Diego by stopping in Santa Barbara or a bit further and being well rested for an early assault on Los Angeles.
With I-15, oncoming, merging traffic attacks mainly on one side rather than both sides Binocular are helpful to see distance exits to allow ample time for lane changing.
- Question: are motor homes allowed in car pool lane in LA ?

George and Frances,

As far as I know any car / auto with 2 people that is NOT towing is allowed in the carpool lane. I have driven our coach as well as others in the carpool lane before and CHP has not bothered me. You WILL get pulled over if you are towing since you are only allowed in the 2 right lanes, actually the slow lane always except to pass but they don't enforce that part unless you are causing a hazardous condition. Hope the info helps.

Safe driving,
Kathy
