We have a '98 Intrigue (#10540) that has been running fine until now.
Yesterday we left a shopping area and as I entered the highway the engine was not responsive to the throttle. I was able to maintain approximately 10 mph but no more. If we backed off on the throttle it would slow and on acceleration again would level off at 10 mph.
There was no black smoke and in fact everything seemed normal except the limited speed. Debi suggested I pull over, turn off the key and try again. I did it to humor her because I knew it wouldn't work.
Well I was wrong again. After stopping and shutting down for just a minute or two it now again runs perfectly normal.
My concern is that this will probably happen again and probably at a bad time. Any ideas of where I should look for the culprit?

On my '99 Allure, I had a similar problem but the engine quit completely and it was the oil pressure sending unit. Maybe yours is just starting to going out and the engine will not run at higher rpm's.

What you describe sounds like a fuel filter problem or an air bubble in the fuel system caused by a cracked hose somewhere. Replace ALL fuel filters and check for leaks. Were you blowing white(grey)smoke? Jay Vaughn

Do you have a Pac Brake? Was it turned on at the time or just befor your previous shutdown? Reason I ask, is if it has not been lubricated recently, they can stick closed and your power will suffer as a result. My coach did that when I first purchased it. So much for a Lazy Days maintenance. Anyways, I began to do my own periodic maintenance, I found that after I lubricated the Pac Brake the problem never happened again.

Agree re the pac brake. If stuck closed, no power. Restart may open the pac brake. Mine did not
reopen by itself.

Except that with the exhaust brake stuck closed and the throttle open their will likely be a large amount of black smoke.
I have experienced similar and it was my mistake. I often decelerate using the engine brake and manually down shift. If I forget to re-select 6th gear I will accelerate to the lower selected gear maximum and speed will level off. Just a thought.

I own 98 Intrigue #10550. Had a very similar problen a year ago with intermitent loss of power. No problems starting and running out of gear, but once in gear could not get enough RPMs to get much out of first gear. Sometimes could coerce the the engine/tranny combo to get it to upshift as high as forth but that was it. We tried all the normal fuel remedies, filters, etc. I learned to bleed the injector rack from front, back or sideways, but that never fixed the problem. Finally nursed her into Cummins Power in Glen Burnie, MD (about 20 miles) at 5am so I could take back roads and didn't have to/couldn't go over 30 mph.
After two days of hunting, they found the problem. The King throttle controller, which is electric/vaccumn operated, was malfunctioning. So the throttle cable back to the engine was only being pulled but so far. Therefore the engine wasn't revving up even though my foot was telling me it should be. Sound like a familiar feeling?
The cure was to have Cummins ship the King throttle controller (its mounted under the chasis in the rear) back to King (Michigan I believe) and have it rebuilt and retun shipped. Once re-installed she rolled like thunder and haven't had a minute's problem since.
Since our coaches are so close, this is definitely something to look into. I know it will drive you crazy, cause you never know quite when its going to manifest itself. And usualy at the wrong time. Can't tell you how many fuel filters I went through tryimg to stop it. And those well-meant wifely suggestions about how to fix it get old too, particularly when you load up for a trip and can't get the RPM's to get out of the neighborhood.

I want to thank everyone for the suggestions. I'll take a look at each of the areas that have been suggested. My first thought was the throttle controller but it could be other things. Luckily I've got the winter to try different things as we won't be traveling south this winter as we usually do.
Is anyone privy to any King Throttle diagnosis material?

Wow.
My coach had exactly the same issue! We did not have to rebuild the King Control just take it apart, clean the connectors and put it back togther.

CUMMINS WITH BANKS TURBO. I PULLED THE EXHAUST BEHIND THE PAC BRAKE AND THE COACH RAN GOOD SO THOUGHT THE MUFFLER WAS PLUGGED. SO REPLACED THE MUFFLER AND PUT BACK TOGETHER. NOW SAME PROBLEM. PAC BRAKE IF OPEN AND NOT SHUTTING UNDER POWER. SO WHERE ELSE TO TURN TO?. READING POSTS HERE BUT HOW DO YOU CHECK THE KING THROTTLE CONTROLER MEC.
