I just turned 30,000 miles on the coach today and have never had any oil blow by problems. I came down I 26 from Ashleyville to Myrtle beach and used the pac brake on the long downhills. My oil level is still above add but the pickup looks like I ran thru a texas oil field. Does extended usage of pac cause blow by or the down hill angle? I finialy learned that if I turn off the cruise button the brake comes on as soon as I lift foot on acc pedal. If I have curise button on and not engaged it will not come on until I am about 10 mph over cruise setting.

Don: If you have a Caterpillar engine, the CAT website says your oil capacity is 34 quarts. The CAT manual says the capacity is 37 quarts, but that the dipstick should be calibrated at the first oil change. I purchased my '05 Inspire with 9,000 miles and had oil over my toad as I returned from the initial trip. I had the dipstick calibrated(the procedure is covered in the CAT manual) for 34 quarts and the new full mark was at the same point as the initial add mark. So far no oil being regurgitated through the crankcase breather tube.
I assume the Caterpillar manual is written for all vehicle and engine combinations whereas the website is specific to RV's. I do know that some engine applications use shallower oil pans than others.
Hope this helps.

Don:
How long ago did you have the oil changed? Is it possible it was overfilled? An overfilled crankcase will blow oil when the Pac brake is engaged. If not, and your oil level is above add and you are blowing oil, you may have diesel getting into your crankcase. Get to a shop and have an oil contamination test done. Cost just over $100. If you have diesel in your oil, you have a problem with your injector pump. Unfortunately, that means $$$. Been there, done that.

Hi Don,
We had a similar problem. We purchased our Inspire 360 new two years ago and for the initial 4,000 miles I was constantly adding a pint of oil or so after each 400 mile run. Also seeing fine oil residue on rear bodywork. At 5,000 miles took coach into R Mechanics in Livermore for service and oil change. They had to add 42 pints to achieve full mark and suspected that dipstick needed recalibration.
They sent me to Petersen Cat in San Leandro for correction as a warrantee job. Petersen Cat told me that sump sizes and capacities do vary slightly. They drained the new oil out, refilled to 38 pints and recalibrated the dipstick. Now the original "fill" mark is the new "full" mark. And all has been ok since. Now have over 11,000 miles on clock not seen any new oil blow back and only needed 1 pint to top off recently. Also had valve lash checked at 5,000 miles.

Correction.
My earler mail should have read 38 quarts, not pints.
Apologies for error
