Hi Tom,

The boot heel has the largest last stand of original west prairie grass, bought recently by a foundation for historic preservation.
The folks at the PO in Animas says it's driveable if not wet where the road becomes gravel and dirt. A great back way into the Coronado National Forest and Pancho Villa territory.

I could write a very long post about the Southwest and its beauty. If I didn't live at the gateway to the area, it would possibly be my favorite. Being able to see 100+ miles in any direction is very "Alluring". But Alas the San Juans of Colorado keep calling to me. It's great to be able to see and not have the interference of the trees and green getting in the way in this part of the world.. If you can plan your visit, wait until monsoon season and try to be in the area after some big rains. People in the east have no clue as to the beauty of an infinite carpet of wild flowers all in bloom with 50,000' thunder heads in the background.
