Nancy and I are shopping for a used coach. We "think" we have narrowed the search to a 95 Magna 38' with a Cummins 300 and Gillig chassis, and a 98 Allure 40' with a Cummins 325 and Dynomax chassis. The prices are virtually the same. In checking NADA the 95 books at $110,530 low retail and $133,170 high retail. The 98 books at $88,770 and $106,950.
What makes the 95 which is 3 years older, 2' shorter and 25 horse power less worth $20,000+ more?
Thanks,
Bob

Bob,
Part of the answer lies in the pricing of each of Country Coach's product lines - currently, there's about a retail jump of $100,000 between each line. I can't vouch for what the spread was then, but the Magna is two levels above the Allure. Good luck with either coach.

Custom made is the largest reason. The Allure is more of a "production built"? coach. Somewhere around 200 made per year and a total of 32 days effort. The Magna, on the other hand is considered a "custom coach"?, 90 made per year and about 52 days in production. Part of the MAC line (Magna, Affinity, and Concept) with a more hands on approach towards the building process. As far as the engine goes, they are both 8.3 Cummins (in my opinion, the 275, 300, 315, 325 all produce about the same torque within 100 pds. 805/950). The Magna is a full clear coat while the Allure only clear coats the paint strips. The rear brakes on the Magna are a huge 10.5"? x 16"? with the Allure coming in at 7"? x 16"?. The insulation of the Magna is superior, the fiberglass walls are thicker, and it's just about the only fiberglass coach (outside of the Affinity) that has a "bus air"? approach to cooling off your coach. (It will cool using your dash front air AND a three-way fan to cool the rear (bedroom) with just using the motor. No geni is required.
I can go on and on. In my opinion, the Magna (and Affinity) is the "Best"? made fiberglass coach period. Retail, there was a $100k different between the two lines. (In car terms, the Allure is a 3-series BMW and the Magna is a 5-series BMW, but both are great cars.)
Hope this helps.

Bob:
Here are some websites that may help your search: Most sites will allow you to narrow your search to 1.Mfg.; 2. Model; 3. Year (s); 4. Length; 5. These typically are for Sale by Owner; 6. Have NADA Price Guide Link to shop Prices.
Beginning in 2000, CC included Neway Independent Front Suspension......its a big +++

Hi Bob:
Thank you for asking the question. I learned some more positive things about our recently purchased 95 Magna 38 foot. After 4 months of experience, we cannot be more pleased with our purchase.
The quality and ride are great. Many small touches exist that we did not see when making our decision. The issues we have are cosmetic, and entrance door oriented. The compliments from fellow campers are satisfying. The Gillig chassis was a key element of our decision. We cannot give you the comparisons you are looking for, but are very satisfied with the Magna as our first RV.

One thing you should keep in mind is that the 95 Magna will not be an electronic engine. Cat did not make an electronic engine till 96 and Cummings was not till 98 or 99.
