I have the original water heater which came with my 2000 Intrigue, recently the on/off switch on the water heater self destructed. I was able to get a replacement switch and that fixed the immediate problem, however, the cutoff thermostat seems to be the real culprit as the water gets very hot when on electric. I would like to replace that thermostat but have been unable to find one. CC parts is unable to get it and the water heater manufacturer tells me that my water heater is no longer supported as they stopped building it in 1998. Does anyone have knowledge of where the thermostat could be purchased. It is the little round button type mounted directly on the water heater, it has no adjustment for temperature limit.

Thanks.
Ray

You did not say what model water heater you have. If you have the one that has a screw in heating element, you most likely have both a fixed thermostat and a thermal cutoff or ECO. The thermostst is fixed at 140F and the ECO is the backup for when the thermostat fails and is set at 170F. I would test the entire circuit. Go to the files section and look at the Atwood Water Heater Service manual I just uploaded there. Check on line for the item. If you have the GCH6A-9E like I do this one should do the trick. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ATWOOD-RV-WATER-HEATER-ECO-THERMOSTAT-T-STAT-KIT_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2em20Q2el1116QQitemZ360072061359 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ATWOOD-RV-WATER-HEATER-ECO-THERMOSTAT-T-STAT-KIT_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2em20Q2el1116QQitemZ360072061359)
You can also check Camping World http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/140-degree-thermostat-eco-kit-for-atwood-dsi-water-heaters/15245 (http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/140-degree-thermostat-eco-kit-for-atwood-dsi-water-heaters/15245) has it for even less.

The name of the company that manufactures the switches is Airpax, Thermal Sensing Products, 807 Woods Road, PO Box 520, Cambridge, MD 21613

www.airpax.net (http://www.airpax.net)
If you have access to Newark or Allied, they both carry the parts. Also should be available at an appliance supply store.

Hope this helps.
