We're leaving the Lake Almanor, CA area heading for Eugene, OR on Sat morning. I have two choices: 1) Head west on CA 36 to Red Bluff then north on I-5 to Eugune or 2) Head north on CA 44 and then 89 to Weed, CA then I-5 to Eugene. Has anyone got any info on 44/89 and would you hesitate taking a 36' coach with toad on those roads? Map Quest says that route is 50 miles and about 1 hour shorter.

I have driven the Weed road to I-5 with my 36' Allure pulling my CRV, not a bad road. If you want a much more scenic ride, don't turn off to Weed but go up to Crescent City through the Redwoods. Then North on the Oregon coast on 101. Take the road from Reedsport to I-5, it comes in about 40 miles South of Eugene. There are great vistas to stop and watch the Elk herds along the way from Reedsport. The road from Crescent City to Grants Pass has a few corners where you would not like to meet a log truck, this route is not recommended.
