Title: Cracks in fiberglass just above the windshield

On our first ever trip in our 2000 Allure 30493, during August, we had leaks in the front windshield, on the drivers side, during heavy downpours. Had a glass co. come look at it today and they did remove the center bead, peeled back the rubber gaskets, and checked the urethane caulk. That looked okay but they added more. They then noticed cracks in the fiberglass just above the rubber gaskets on the concave area that then curls upwards. Have any other Allure/Intrigue owners experienced this? As the coaches differ I do not know if the higher lines (Magna, etc.) have similar curvatures. All I know is that my prior 94 Bounder, a cheap gas unit, never had these problems! The fiberglass is rather thin in that area and I think is a design flaw. Of course, that depends on whether others have had similar problems. Any news, suggestions, ideas???

Mike,

I had fiberglass cracks on my 2000 Allure, #30491, on the passenger side. I noticed the cracks while washing the vehicle. I reported the problem to my dealer and they repaired the crack the next time I visited them for service. I was told that they have had some other coaches with the same problem. The repair was quick and I have not had problems since.

As a point of reference.....are the cracks only in the jell-coat or are they all the way through?

Do you know what they specifically did to repair it? My dealer is a long way from me so I would try things myself. Was it a simple caulking job? On Tue, 10 Sep 2002 12:37:44 -0000 "David G. Grazier" dcgrazier@...> writes:

The biggest crack appeared to be almost all the way through. We caulked it and it seems okay so far. Have to wait for the next big downpour to see if it stops the leak. There were two other cracks but they were on the surface which I assume is the gel coat. Caulked them too.

Jim,

On my Allure, the cracks were through the fiberglass. Water could have penetrated the cracks to the inside of the coach.

Mike,

They did a major repair job on my coach. The fiberglass was repaired and the area was repainted. They did a great job. I can not tell where they did the repairs and the paint job is outstanding.
